Hey guys,When I made the spool jig for Scott, I had to weld a 1/2" thread to the spool shaft to be able to tension the spool to eliminate birdnesting of the wire when pulling from the spool. I had a nice small jig I made 10yrs ago for welding some extensions on rod where I worked. It is simply a piece of 1" angle welded to a base with (2) slots for different size/length bolts/thd rod. It works amazingly easy & all that's needed is a nice bevel on each piece. I turn the od on the lathe when welded. Funny thing, I had to use it twice this week for a couple different jobs & had to dig it out of the jig drawer as I hadn't a need for it this year at all. This is the small one for small thd scr/bolts up to 1/2". I have a larger one for everything over 1/2". Handy buggers.Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:That'll never work.Cool tool nice and simple.
Reply:I like the idea and think it is creative and all but wouldn't it be easier to thread a piece of rod? Reply:I like it! I have a piece of 2" angle welded to the end of my workbench for welding round things. Its on the short side of the bench set up like a V. Same Idea.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I have the same set up and I use it for welding and on the drill press. It makes drilling round stock much easier than any other set up I have tried.
Reply:Interesting, but I was taught that to butt weld two cylinders, you grind two sides to a chisel like shape, and not to a cone. Then just weld from two sides, instead of all around.
Reply:Why do the butt weld? Just hacksaw the head off a cap screw then drill the cotter pin hole and dress the end with a file. The only jig you need is a bench vice!-MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:If you do a saddle with solid rod, it's very difficult to get any penetration. |
