Help on becoming a pipeline welder

Hello all, I am curious if anyone here has some advice for me as i am trying to get into pipeline welding. I am an Air Force trained welder and have been a welder for about 8 years. I can do any type of welding but believe i need to hone my ARC and TIG skills before taking a welding test with a company. any advice would be appreciated... from what certs i need to the practice i need to be doing etc. currently i am thinking of enrolling in a 13 month applied welding technologies course to re-hone my skills and to also get my AWS cert. is this even a needed cert. I completely fine with breaking in the business as a low level welders helper, just need advice on how to get there.Thanks again guys for any help you may be able to provide.
