I had some side jobs that involved welding various 1 1/2" ~ 3" pipe to flanges. When I got to the shop, one guy had been working on the fit-ups with little success. So I showed him a few short cuts and we whipped it out in no time flat. The drawings called out for overall dimensions, so I measured the inside of the flange to the outside flange face of both ends, did some math and tacked in some scrap so I could get my overall. I went about 1/16" longer because of weld shrinkage. Then I 2-holed it in the vice and then did the same for the loose flange. I also video taped one of the larger assemblies. It was a little tricky with flanges and plates getting in the way. Unfortunately, I failed to take photos of the finished welds. The first welds were a little rough, but it looked pretty nice towards the end. Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:those are two hole pins, flange wizard makes them along with a few others. makes fabing easy and precise. I still use a basic torpedo level for field work though. just a little faster.
Reply:I was using two different styles.. One set screwed together through the hole and the other slid together. I liked the screw type because it didnt slack off while I was messing around but it took longer because of all the threads. The slide-on type was quick but you had to make sure they didnt slack off from moving things around.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom. |
