Hey guys just wondering how you all set your Rangers for vertical up welding with 7018 ?The arc force is what I am mainly wondering about... The vertical weld attached was welded at 105 amps arc force on +4 with a 1/8th inch Esab OK55 7018.It seems the higher I have the arc force the more the machine tries to gouge, whereas on the lower side it seems as if the weld just sprays off the electrode.I can also run a good bead on 120 amps if I back the arc force down to the - side just butter it on and go.So where do you all set these machines for vertical up ? Higher on the amperage and lower on arc force ? ORLower on amps and higher arc force ?Put the old Red Face high on the coarse control and low on the fine control and she will run vertical for a joke....Im a guy who is used to running Miller machines with an arc control that doesn't seem to change a whole lot.. Reply:Thanks grindelIts just interesting to know how everyone runs their machines. I prefer a softer arc for vertical. I have read on here before about guys running high on the arc force for vertical but having low amps, id rather go the other way and run higher amperages and a softer arc... I find the higher amperages and softer arc helps the weld "wet" in better with less undercut. I have to work a lot more with higher arc force to get a decent bead, kind of fighting the weld to go in....My SA 200 just puts it in there with almost no effort... Its funny how different the machines are.Journeyman / Red Seal Welder (What a useless test)Miller CST 280Miller XMT 350Miller 12vs XtremeEvolution Evo 28 mag drillEvolution 380 Dry Cut saw |
