A guy over on the Miller site was asking about running aluminum with a spoolgun off a Bobcat so having not run my own WC-1S / SM-1 off mine since getting it back together, I decided to do so. I've run the Spoolmatic off the MM200 but here's the results of the first time Bobcat / SM-1 combination.Fine Current Control - 10WFS - 6Argon - 25CFHWire - .035, 4043Equipment setup with the new 14-pin receptacle on Bobby http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=44369.3-pass weld. The light/glare/shadow makes it look like undercut on the lower bead to the right of the reference dime but it isn't.Another look at the same beads. No doubt needs improvement but bear in mind this was the first go with the WC-1S/SM-1/Bobcat combination.Flipped it over and ran one down along the outside corner. Didn't clean off the paint adjacent to the weld so it pulled in contaminates as a result even though it can't be seen in the photo. Note the cold start at the far right.View of the cross section.Gotta get the contactor installed though as the "hot electrode" won't break the arc very easy at the end of a bead to allow keeping the gas flowing to protect the puddle as it cools. Burned the wire back into the tip a few times trashing one. Thanks for looking.Last edited by duaneb55; 12-22-2010 at 10:45 PM.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Nice demo Duane. It's amazing how many combinations of gear can be put together to make sparks fly. City of L.A. Reply:Thanks Danny. Sure is and I'm still on the prowl for that HF-251D-1 package "deal" to round it all out and complete my original plans for the unit - even though the sparks thing isn't all that good with TIG. Reply:nice duane so if i put a 14 pin receptacle on my 225g all ill needis a wc-24 to run my 30A spoolgun or do i need a sga 100
Reply:No on the WC-24 unless you install a 120VAC-to-24VAC or 240VAC-to-24VAC step-down transformer as part of the 14-pin upgrade which is forthcoming on mine along with a contactor and LOCAL/REMOTE selector switch. The SGA-100 and 3035 would work without the 14-pin as the SGA-100 would just plug into one of the AC outlets for its power.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I should clarify ed, the contactor and LOCAL/REMOTE selector switch isn't a necessity but would make breaking the arc at the end of a weld easier so you can keep the shielding gas going for those last few seconds.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base! |
