Hey all, don't know any other place to post this so I'll start here. I have an oxy-acetylene torch outfit and I'll be trying my hand at making a sheet brass fuel tank for a custom motorcycle. In a nutshell, I'll be piecing the tank together. Left side, right side, and a wrap around piece that will form the front, back, top and bottom. I thought I'd use Harris Stay bright 8 and their matching flux. Anyone see a problem with this? The left and right sides of the tank will have a 90 degree bend around the edge for the wrap around piece to be soldered to... thus making a lap joint around the whole edge. Any opinions or alternative ideas would be much welcomed!
Reply:No problems using Stay Brite 8 for that application. Lap joints are good candidates for silver solder.
Reply:And, I assume that the joint should be about as strong as the brass it's soldered to?Which flux do you recommend? Paste or liquid?

Reply:Harris Stay Silv White Brazing Flux is what we use. Occasionally, I have someone that gets into the Black variety. Both work well for our applications, but I think the white is more readily available. |
