Just curious, thought I'd throw it out there. Does anyone prefer one over the other?Shake and Bake
Reply:Yep, easy choice for me. My wrists are very damaged on both hands, so the ability to screw down the clamp and easily bend any direction is the way to go for me!Dave J. Reply:It comes down to preference, or as in Dave's case, what the body dictates. I have used both, and prefer the clamp style.

Reply:I've always use a clamp type, with TwecoTong being my favorite. But I recently picked up a Stinger V and I think I will like it.TwecoTongStinger V"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:I prefer the clamp style myself it annoys me using the pistol style because it seems like every rod I have to put in it you have to bend it to get the right angle to start.
Reply:I use both, and they each have their benefits. In a tight spot that requires me to bend the rod halfway up at a weird angle, I prefer the screw type to hold the rod tightly while I bed the rod. For welds that are easy access and require many rods, clamp style all the way. The speed and ease to switch rods makes it the clear choice for me.Lincoln Precision Tig 185Lincoln Power Mig 256Hypertherm PM 45Everlast 140STSmith O/A

Reply:I went to the Lenco, Duro rod holder a long time ago and haven't found any thing better. No springs as the jaws are the springs. It holds a rod tight enough that you can bend it and the rod won't move in the jaws. The little heat shield is really a big help when the rod burns short.

Reply:I keep both on the truck, if I am burning heavy rods I go to the Bernard holder, for most other things the Tweco is the to to stinger.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:All the pipeliner guy's rave about the Stinger V, on the holding strength, made in USA, etc. I sold a welder so I figured I would try one. It's a little bigger than I normally like, but I think I will like it. I haven't used it enough yet, maybe a dozen electrodes playin around. I'll let you know. I don't remember if it will handle a 1/4" electrode. And for the 3/32"'s I will probably still use my 200A clamp type with it's #4 whip. I put a #2 on the Stinger V. I was also going to get a DURO to try, but decided not to."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:I use a tweco clamp and bend my electrode 90 degrees so I can spin that rod with my finger without having to move around a bunch. |
