I just put a new roll of .030" wire on my Millermatic 211 today and now I am getting welds like these. The welds sound like they are too hot and too fast. Like bacon sizzling TOO fast. The weld puddle is very "agitated" instead of being calm and smooth and the end of the welds look "blown out" and like they have a lot of porosity. I am using an Argon/CO2 mix. I started out with the machine on the suggested settings. Voltage/Wire Speed settings were: 4.5/65 on 1/8" flat and 6/90 on 1/4" plate. The gas was set between 15 and 20 cfh and I was getting a lot of brown soot around the weld. When I adjusted the machine I went down on the volts and the wire speed. It seemed like the arc was too hot and out of control or it was spitting and sputtering, maybe too cold. Also, the torch went from clean to dirty with caked on crud falling off after like 3 or 4 beads. When I replaced the wire I did not mess the the tension and I put a new tip and cleaned the gas guard around the tip. Before I changed the wire the machine was working great. I was getting nice beads (for me) and was well on my way to learning to weld. Now I can't figure out what is going on. There are so many variables and now I don't know what to do. Thanks in advance for your help.Brian Attached Images

Reply:Yea, I've checked it several times. It's on.
Reply:Did you get flux core wire somehow?
Reply:I'm pretty sure I didn't. I've tried two different rolls of wire. Different brands, but both .030" solid core. Just verified I am getting gas from the cylinders.
Reply:It acts the same way whether I push the puddle or pull the puddle. I had just started trying to push the puddle based on what I've seen DSW tell numerous people on here. Then my wire ran out, so I got some more today, changed it, fired the machine back up, and voilá it's acting weird. Tried adjusting the gas, the heat, the wire speed, and changing the wire all to no avail.Brian

Reply:Hey Brian.I'll bet when you replaced the roll of wire, your MIG cable got pushed out some and now the gas is leaking out. Try unlocking the gun, fully seating it back so there is no gap, and retighten. I have had this happen before.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
