When I got into this hobby of colection garden tractors everyone told me I needed a welder to fix and make things for them, and well that led me here. So i had one loader, wasnt happy with it so I sold it now bought another one. Ill have to redo the welds on it from the previous owner. I see you all post all the time about cold welds, DSW has helped me out with some of my stuff,  lessons learned thank you. So I thought Id post a few of the loader before I start the redoing of it. I dont know when Ill get a chance to start the project, seeing the tractor its going on still needs an eng and I only have 3 on the floor to put in it. So Im sure it wont be too long. I was thinking the PO didnt have enough amps to burn it in. Im going to gind them down and run some 7018 over them. Do you all think that the PO used a stick or a mig on it? Reply:You're welcome.I don't see any signs of slag stuck to the welds so I'd have to guess mig, not that it would matter. I can't see him being able to clean all the slag off completely with those welds the way they look.I though it was bigger from the 1st few picts. I'm not sure I'd call that a loader. I'm not even sure I'd say it's a mower with a shovel attached to it. Maybe a big Tonka toy possibly... Looks cute though.Build a plow for that puppy. Looks like you've got the hydraulics already with a bit of playing..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Those welds look to be stick, long arc'd with too few amps (and too much spatter), but thats just a guess. I'd say mig or wirefeed, but there aren't any "whiskers" sticking out.I like that tractor, don't let people fool ya', you can do a lot with those, and collecting old tractors can definatly be a fun, if not expensive, hobby.[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:DSW check out what one of our tractor forum members dose with these little lawn mowers. He dose nice work. Ive installed some of his stuff on oher peoples tractors. http://www.xtrememotorworks.com/Its going on one like he shows the BOSS power steering and I may put my kubota eng in it, not sure yet. I like the little pan he built and the dump carts. On i have pleanty of plows, blades, rakes...ect. But the loader will be nice. Heres the link to who deshined it, lots of guys are using it with nice things to say about it. http://www.p.f.engineering.50megs.com/I got all the cylinders, pump, and control valve for 450 so Im smilling like an *** in a brier patch. My wife will coment later on that LOL! But really all help and coments are taken seriously, thanks again. Attached ImagesLearning one rod at a time
Reply:Nice. I have a customer who'd love one of those larger "mid size" loaders for her barn. I think shes regretting selling her husbands old Kubota loader even though it was way bigger than she really needed. He used to have a couple of beat to death Simplicty tractors he mowed with and choped up leaves. They would have made good project donors if I had the time. I need more projects like I need a hole in my head however..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Ok so I have a little time today to get some welding in. I took the front bracket and redid the welds on it. I couldnt get my grinder into the corners so Im going to burn over it. I dont know how else to do it. Heres the longest run on it. The first weld looks like I had my speed right. Also i noticed that the flux is coming off as it cools, I seen Tozzi do some pipe like that so I must have done something right!  The others look like Im too slow as its thicker, taller, wider. My friend gave me some Atom Arc 7018's to try. Im running them at 125 on DCEP. I dont know why I didnt take pics of my prep work, but I ground out the welds and made a nice grove to weld in. DSW Comments welcome!: waving:  Attached ImagesLearning one rod at a time
Reply:Nice job.  That loader is awesome, I want one now! Some Blue , Some Red & Some GreyProverbs 16:2-3.2 "All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. 3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."
Reply:When I was a little kid I always wanted to have a little tractor with a front end loader like that... some day
Reply:Try to grind of your stops so you have a low spot where to start the new bead. That way the whole bead will have a more even look.Mikel
Reply:Nice lookin beads Vince. Now look at whatcha done, everybody wants a loader
Reply:Thanks Guys like it says one rod at a time! VW dont I know you? Do you live in Mich?Learning one rod at a time
Reply:Nice fixing job there Vince. The previous guy did a terrible job.  I promise I will not let my son see the pictures because he will want me to make one.  Some day I will, but not yet.

Reply:This is some prep work I did for the repair of the 3rd pic in the original post. It didnt take me long to see that that this was not going to hold. I thin I did this right, groved out the angle cut and filled the valley. Still used the atom ark 1/8 on about 130. Attached ImagesLearning one rod at a time
Reply:I've wanted a little loader for many years now but every time I seem to get some funds together some neat tool or machine pops up.
Reply:Seems like it is going to hold but for the next time you may do a bit better with a zip disc, cutting all the way through and using some 6010 or 6011 to put down the root of the weld, then capping with the 7018. You will achive full penetration that way.Mikel
Reply:Ok Ill try the 60xx I have lots of them. Im working on the uprights today. So your sayin, I may have ground them too wide?Learning one rod at a time
Reply:Ok so Im taking advantage of a few days off, and no deer huntin for me this year back home, so Ill weld. Been working on my boom. I think Im getting better control of the rod, puddle ect. Still useing these atom arc;s that were given to me. I can tell Im getting good penetration. I see what you guys go threw on the posts of you "out of Position" man its a whole differnt world laying on the ground than it is standing at a table or on saw horses! Am I too hot to have the paint burn off the other side of the steel? Its 1/4 thick. Attached ImagesLearning one rod at a time
Reply:I wouldn't say it's too hot. One thing I do see, is it looks like you might be welding vertical down, if you are welding it as shown. Vertical down usually has less penetration than running vertical up, and you can trap slag running vertical down using 7018. Personally I'd run all the welds vertical up if I have to weld as shown, or better yet roll the unit so you can weld flat if that's possible. That way you get the best welds. The beads themselves look better than what I seem to remember from before. Still a bit humped and I can't tell if they simply didn't fill on the sides or if that's undercut I'm seeing. If these were run up, I'd say you need to hold the sides a bit longer and move thru the middle faster..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:DSWMe vert up, remember me setting the trailer on its side cause I cant weld up? LOL I did flip it around so I welded flat as possable. I just cant seem to get the bead nice and flat like you guys do. Im guessing that will come with pratice. Now all I have left to do is build the sub frame and weld the bucket. I told the fab shop I wouldnt be ready for it till after Christmas so look like Im right on schedule.Learning one rod at a time
