Hi folks, I have a question that's going to be easy for someone, but I can't seem to find the answer online. I'm graduating up from a self contained HH180 to a Maxtron + LN-25 combination. This is the first time I've dealt with anything but 2 and 10 lb wire spools. I bought a skid of 5/64" FCAW wire in 50# spools that's as shown in the pictures, it doesn't have a hub (just a cardboard circle). What do I need in order to run this in my LN-25? I assume there's some kind of openable hub that accepts these spools? Or are these only meant for open backed feeders where the roll is in open air? I suppose I could make a jig to wind the wire onto 10# rolls by hand...(I know I need liner, tip, etc, for the gun, that's not what I'm asking about.)Also, if anyone in SE Michigan needs some of these spools I have more than I'll use in a lifetime and would be happy to trade/sell some. Boxes are ugly, but most of them are still sealed in the factory plastic inside. Attached Images
Reply:Unless you're willing and want to take all the time and deal with the challenges of "re-spooling" those 50#ers onto empty 12" spools. That 5/64" wire probably won't like to wrap around the smaller diameter drum of a 12" either. You might be better off putting them up on craigslist or ebay and buy spools that fit the LN-25.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!

Reply:Missed that it was a 50 pounder. The k435 spool adapter is apparently for the same style, but only 14# spool. I think I would just build a jig to rewind then onto standard spools, or the lighter easy reels if it causes distortion to the wire to wind them that small. I had been running 10 pound spools in my ln25, but ran out and threw in a 30# spool on a job. That much extra weight makes it no fun to tote around.
Reply:Can you post up some OD, ID, width measurements of the spool? If it were me, and it would fit in the cabinet, I would make my own adapter. I have no doubts that the machine can turn wire from a 50# spool, so long as it will fit.
Reply:you will need to get a spool adapter, make a stand for the adapter and run the wire through the feeder, not in the feeder, It will work fine.6 Miller Big Blue 600 Air Paks2 Miller 400D6 Lincoln LN-25's4 Miller Xtreme 12VS2 Miller Dimension 812 4 Climax BW-3000Z bore welders Hypertherm 65 and 85Bug-O Track BugPair of Welpers |
