Got a stump grinder flywheel that takes 1/2" round bits in blind holes. Some of the holes have wallered out.Just wondering how it might work if I were to grind down some around the holes, insert a 1/2" copper rod or carbon rod and migged around that. Hopefully that might give me a little more support around the tools and maybe keep them from banging around.Any thoughts?Last edited by In Utopia; 07-07-2013 at 10:35 AM.
Reply:if you gonna grind foozle and fots around anyway why not use some steel rod, more stronger..i think the copper would just act like an inclusion in the weld..
Reply:I was wanting a way to preserve the original hole while building up the top part that's wallered out.In other words don't want anything that the new weld would stick to.
Reply:I'd plug weld it all up and re drill.
Reply:Drill it over-sized press a sleeve in the new hole
Reply:Got six to do, and all are cross drilled and tapped at different angles.Just looking for a patch job. Eventually I'll have to re-sleeve and re-tap the 3/8" NF hold down bolts.
Reply:There is a couple seta of rods and plates sold for this purpose, dont remember the brand off hand. We used a couple of the rods and thet worked well. Your approach will work as well, then the softer material will drill out easly. |
