i always find my self making little time wasters( upgrades) when i cant focus on the project in front of me these are nothing special just thought i would share ..  here is this weeks cutting oil holder for my drill press and a back board for the lathe so oil stops hitting the dry wall while its spinningSIN CITY METAL WORKSvisit my YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/devvon
Reply:A similar thing happens to me, but in a different sort of way. When I go to start a project my work area will usually have 3 or 4 other projects sitting in it, like broken stuff etc that I pile on the bench to fix later. So now I have to work thru that stuff first to make room for the project at hand.Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.
Reply:How about anybody else?It seems to be a mental mountain to climb to get started on something new.  I get "warmed up" by "puttering around" - misc clean-up, little jigs, some little thing needed for the shop.  That takes me out of "inertia"    into MOMENTUM!!!    Hurry up and work like mad to get done before dark.
Reply:Ive stopped doing any money making work at all . I just do getting started work all day.  Mac
Reply:Hey wd40,How do you like that drill press? Just wondering. I've seen one for sale just like it. I know these are the older ones built in Taiwan, and I've read that the QC was better then. Thanks,PapaLincoln Idealarc 250 (circa 1962)Lincoln Weldpak 155 w/Mig KitLincoln Squarewave TIG 175
Reply:I have to prioritize jobs at work based on what stage of reset the piece of equipment is in. Any thing almost ready to ship out gets first. But I always try and make sure Monday morning has little projects to do to ease myself into the workday.Any other side projects are based on, Time, material, aggravation level, and if the person asking for it has p1ssed me off in the last few weeks. If you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish
Reply:I have more projects than I can remember.  Most of my stuff get's sidelined for other peoples' stuff.  Every now and then I will get some stuff done.  I work M-F 6AM - 2:30PM or later and by that time I'm just too tired or disinterested to hit the shop. HahaI still have a car to build LOLI still have to make some gifts for people for Christmas :-/JoeMiller 140 Autoset (2010)Miller Syncrowave 250 (1996)

Reply:Originally Posted by speedfreak87I wish I worked 6-2, I would hit the shop right after work to de-stress.. My problem is, I also have a car to finish building, I'm working on completing the design of a radiator overflow tank (final tweaks) and I need to get started on the fuel cells to sell over the winter.. my other issue is I work out of dads garage and I have no room for anything.. to much clutter, have to set up and tear down EVERY time I work on something.. that in itself takes the motivation away from any project.
Reply:Originally Posted by joebieI hit the gym to de-stress :-)You should look at places to rent with some friends.  I rent a 1400SQft building for around 675/mo with 2 other people.  So it works out realllly well.  And the best part is... it's heated!

Reply:Originally Posted by speedfreak87I work out in the am. lol! I have no one around me that does anything.. If I lived in CT, I would be able to rent out a spot in my buds shop.  Around here, everyone rents any space for more then it's worth, so I'm just making due.

Technically, I'm in a temporary position right now (permanent at the job, but helping in another area).  So who knows LOL  I just go with the flow.It helps so much.  We pay 150 for util's and add on some for the internet as well.  They are little business warehouses with a small office and a bathroom.  I got extremely lucky to get in where I'm at.  I actually work with the other 2 guys, so I know where to find them when I need to collect payment :-)  I'm essentially trying to open something up fabrication wise.  I already do some small work for friends for money or beer LOL  (I'm easily bought).

Reply:Originally Posted by joebieYeah, and the worst thing is... when you do get a shop, you really acquire things quickly.  So all of a sudden you have a ton of **** and start running out of room LOL.If we ever leave this building... I'm screwed since I have no 220V at home, and no garage HahaAnd another note, it is about 15-20mins away so sometimes it is hard to motivate to get there especially if I have other things to do. (Which I also LOVE to put off haha)  I think if I had a garage or something I would be TIGing every day, every chance I got.
