Not sure if this is the right place but Ive got a question for everyone. Whats your pay based on? How many certs you hold + experience? Also what would you think someone who has 6GR Carbon steel, 6GR Stainless, fluxcore, mig aluminum 5k + 6k series, GTAW (CuNi, Stainless, Carbon, Aluminum, Silicon Bronze) plus can mirror weld and read prints would make? Just curious
Reply:Wages are based mostly on what the market area can stand to pay. All the stuff you mentioned is what keeps you employed, or gets you in the door first. This is the free market answer, when you are talking public union work all logic is tossed out the window. I think the bottom line answer is what ever you can get. Personality and willingness to put in the effort is what gets my non union hands more money. My union employees negotiate with several contractors to set the base wage and benefit package.
Reply:Around here... the man who charges less and does good work gets more business than the one who charges a ton and does good work. The man here with the shop and a mobile welder charges around $35/40/hour depending on what it is... the man with only a mobile welder charges $75+/hour at least. Who do you think gets more business? They both do great work but are in a completely different breed of welding.
Reply:Real easy. Just look up somebody else who has those certs and call them up pretending to be a job offer, and ask them what they charge.Everlast PA160-STH... and that's about it!

Reply:Like what josh said. If you are looking what to charge people, just search for welders online and ask for a quote. Also check for their experience level and their certifications. Once you find out the market price at your location you can come up with a pricing from there.
Reply:As a past business owner, I practiced and was taught to charge whatever the market will bear. What you will work for is another story.Naturally, there are other variables that will effect what you can charge or will get payed.Essentially, there is no clear cut answer to your question.
