I picked up an old Smith cutting torch off Ebay for dirt cheap (probably because it takes obsolete LC tips). Some of those are available, but I'd seen the adapters online and figured since they are cheap I'd try one out. "Cheap" makes me smile. The two-piece cutting tip I chose is for propane. The adapter is the same part for all fuel gases. Looks like a baby Harris-style base, a logical choice to keep installed length reasonable. The workmanship is excellent, they are made in USA, and the tip cuts just like any other propane tip. Installed length is about 3/4" longer than the tip that came with the the torch. They make a variety of cutting and heating tips and torch adapters. I'll be buying more since now I know they do the job. If you are considering an old cutting torch, check to see if they have adapters for it. I ordered from ATL (who advertise a lot on Ebay and have a regular business website). They shipped quickly.http://www.americantorchtip.com/file...0082635604.pdf Attached Images
Reply:Cool! I think I seen that one. I tought was a mistake because it looked like a Victor."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:i bought from them before    they set me up with a tip and adapter for an old rego torch. nice to deal with and shipped fast
Reply:I recently owned a couple of Airco torches that took the obsolete no. 145 tips. I was able to sell them because of the hybrid tips being available. I think they are a great idea and I'd be all over that. Except I already own a whole set of Airco no. 124s, 144s, 164s, 251s and a large selection of oddball flushing/rivet washing tips, plus a whole set of Victor 1-101s and 3-101s plus GPN and GPP, as well as quite a few Smith medium and large size torch tips. In other words I already spent the money on torch tips so it wouldn't save me any.metalmagpie

Reply:Got one to fit my Meco Cutmaster too. I like trying different torches, but am not really into stocking lots of tips for them. The nut is NOT part of the adapter. It's new because I got the torch without one. Acetylene tip instead of propane this time. Attached ImagesLast edited by farmall; 02-10-2011 at 04:19 PM.
Reply:Strange coincidence ‘cause I just modified one the other day, to keep from modifying an expensive tip for one special job. I was going to post but didn't figure anyone would give a rip about ‘em and I didn't want to hear any lecture, so I skipped it. But now... here it is.Yeah, the tips are a good deal. They've been around a long time too. Used to be called "Thrif-T-tip" or something like that.Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 02-10-2011 at 08:23 PM.
Reply:Adapters and tips are cheap:http://www.atlweldingsupply.com/Cutt...ors_c_473.htmlAnother thing I like about the tips is since you can see straight through them cleaning will be a breeze. I have a good number of standard tips for my common torches, but I'll get adapters for them too.Last edited by farmall; 02-10-2011 at 09:52 PM.
