I got my millermatic 130xp back and I was wondering if I can run it off a generator and if I could what size would I need? Thanks.
Reply:The manual lists that it needs 20 amps @ 115v at the rated output of 90 amps. That would work out to a bit less than 2.4KW. As far as running that machine off a gen set, depends on the gen set. Some units don't provide clean power and are not the best for electonic items, so a surge or voltage spike might damage the internal boards. Many newer gen sets however are designed to be compatable with computers and such and should be OK. I've run my 130 amp mig from a 4400 watt gen set quite a bit years ago when we didn't have enough juice at the shop..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Where I moved to I have a garage but no power in it, so I want to put a generator in there. My welder was at a friends for 4 years and I wanted it back since it is mine.
Reply:Where abouts are you located ? I'm up near Warminster in Bucks. If I was looking for a gen set today, I'd get at least a 6500 watt continuous one at the very minimum. I'll probably end up getting a 10,000 or 12,000 watt one so I can power the house in the event of an outage. I've got a couple customers with 220v wells and some other 220v requirements. My 4400 would run my furnace and a few lights in a pinch, but it would be nice to have more power if needed..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:With the current state of the electrical grid, the storms of this winter, and the low price of generator sets; to have a generator set available is in my opinion a reasonable idea. You can put one together on a shoestring, I did.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap.
