Im about to buy a brand new Argon bottle for my scratch-start tig set-up.  Question I have is....dip tube or no dip tube?  And can someone explain in detail what the dip tube does?
Reply:Ive never heard of a dip tube in relation to welding, I think you may be confused with something else.Have we all gone mad?
Reply:How else would a dipstick check his argon level?Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:If you buy a CO2 bottle, you can get a dip tube type to liquid fill paint ball tanks. But for welding it would be worse than useless.Argon is a gas in the tank so I suppose it wouldn't make any difference.

Reply:Whether a tank has a dip tube or not is not up to you, your gas supplier will know when its needed, plus most of the time you just swap tanks anyways.
Reply:As mentioned above, if you ever might change to a fairly high CO2% mix, a dip tube can be helpful,(but not mandatory) for getting a nice consistent mix during filling.  HOwever, your cylinder filler needs to know if you have a DT and he need to know how to use it.  You might check with your LWS and see if they fill onsite.  They may know all about it.  End of the day, it won't hurt on pure argon, just make sure you positively identify they valve as having a DT, and you may be able to use it later
