LA Cert. question

Hi everyone!  Been a while since I posted here since I'm a carpenter now. I seems to pay better in this economy.  I work for a construction company that does welding periodically.  Now they want to pay for my LA Certs for structural steel. I already have the certs that ill be testing for. My question is why don't my AWS certs not transferable to LA? Anyone have insight on this question.  Thanks

Reply:You have to have your certs done through an L.A. approved testing facility and they don't get a cut of any of those fees.

Reply:Most certs expire after 6 months of not using them. How long have you been carpenting?
Reply:I took the welding test back in 1990 somthing when i was in college and passed it 1 inch coupon 1/4 backer but i was on workmans comp at the time with a broken shoulder socket and could not afford to do the real test ...written and the weld test..You have to pay then the insurance company will reimburse you when they get around to it  ...The written test is not easy unless you have cracked the books a lot and i had but no money to spare at the timeSince RCC did all the welding test there i just did it for fun...along with some other "test " for doing pipe and plate, sanitary pipe and tubing,..API /ASME section 9 etc And Walker is most likely right about the reason for San Diego and LA not excepting each others certsBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:Correct me if im wrong but AWS is a baseline standard, kinda like osha... Its any given company's right to be more stringent and have you certify at their facility... They just must meet AWS code as a minimum.SalSal
