My Millermatic 211 came with a spool gun when I bought it and I've never used it because I didn't have any Argon. I have never needed to weld Aluminum so it wasn't an issue. Wanting to play with it now but need to buy a bottle. Don't want to lease or buy new since it's just for practicing. Going to place a wanted add on Craigslist and had a few questions that might help me get more hits. Will any Argon, Helium, Nitrogen and 75/25 mix bottle work for an exchange at the local Airgas location? To clarify, I just figure I would have more options if say someone had an empty nitrogen bottle sitting around that I could buy cheap and then take down to Airgas and exchange for an Argon bottle and just pay the filling fee.I hope the question above isn't stupid.. I'm not a welder by trade. Just do some projects around the house.

Reply:The exchange depends on your supplier. My local gas supply will exchange just about anything. Airgas may have tighter requirements.I'd go ahead and buy a bigger bottle. That 55cf isn't going to last very long. Around here the larger bottles can be bought for around $1 per cf. Also see if your supplier will 'buy back' the bottle or at least give you store credit. I've bought extra bottle when needed, and then traded them later. I've also traded between bottles with different valves (oxygen versus argon). Reply:Where I get bottles filled they will exchange the bottle for what you want no matter what was in it.

Reply:If the company you work for has a major account with them and the sales guy knows you.He will hook you up.If you think you can get better pricing with the person behind the counter without being known in the Gas handling portion of the company you work for, you are going to be disappointed!
Reply:If you want an argon cylinder, anything with a # 580 style valve will work for you. Those are used for the high pressure gases such as argon, helium, nitrogen and the like. There are usually some cylinders for sale on Craigslist but you should learn to read hydrostatic test codes if you buy used from a private party. Reply:I went on CL at different times first i needed a bottle for mig on my 12 RC I got a 244 or K cylinder for 150 it was out of hydro so an extra 35 bucks and exchanged it for a full bottle of C25/75The next time i am now DC TIG capable on my TB302 but i needed a bottle of argonso i found a 244 / K bottle of helium minus the helium with a cart for 140.00 and it was out of hydro so another 35.00 for hydro which i have receipts for both bottles having paid the fee which is good for 5 years and i just exchange them for full bottles and pay for only the gassesFar cheaper than rentingBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me What would SATAN do ??
