Hi folks. I am going on my second replacement on my new cell phone (Palm Pre).  I use a Sync 250 with the high freq utilized.  Now when I'm listening to the radio with my ear buds, every time I hit the button, I hear the static until the arc is established.  A friend of mine suggested that maybe it's the high freq that's killing the external speaker on my phone.Btw, I carry my phone in my front shirt pocket while I'm at work.So what do you guys think?  Is high freq killing my external speaker on my phone?
Reply:I killed a Version Casio G-Zone 1 doing that.  The engineer that designed it called me asking me how the heck I broke a G-zone.   Evidentally I was the first guy to break one in the country (btw I used to have a friend who work for verizon and I got mine 2 weeks before anyone else did).  I told him I was doing Hi Freq tig welding and had it sitting on my welding bench at my old job.  Well it did it in.  Stupid phone was only a week old.  GRRRRRLincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:yes it killed it i don't were a watch anymore either cause it kills them alsoit plays havic with the land line phone in the shop also (small shop )
Reply:So do you think carrying it in my front pants pocket instead of my front shirt pocket will help?
Reply:You cant talk and work leave it in the truck. What boss man says. I carry mine in the pants when i do have it. Grinder dust will also kill the speaker. Take your pocket knife over the speaker opening every day and it will pull the shavings outLast edited by jroyster06; 10-17-2009 at 12:02 AM.Weldandpower 225Heliarc Rig for itTorchesect ect ectLifes Short WELD NAKEDLooking for a SA200

Reply:I've never had the hi freq hurt either of my phones, & I weld Aluminum all day, 7 days a week.I do have POS phones though, nothing fancy. But radios on the other hand...I've found that the digital on/off switches on them get switched off, from the HF.  It Drove me nuts!HF screws up my living room TV, but not my Office TV or Pc's.Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.
Reply:Your shop electrical service isn't properly grounded.
Reply:Using a rare earth magnet takes out dust and shavings pretty good! Never killed a phone with high freq. But I've seen it do crazy things

Reply:I can say that when I weld and don't have a good current path (usually if the ground/work clamp to work connection is dirty) or if my tungsten is dirty, my machine will "buzz" with the HF arc starting, rather than just immediately starting the high current welding arc.  When this happens, my garage door opener can start blinking its lights signaling some kind of failure mode (and needs to be unplugged and plugged back in to reset), and I've also noticed my cell phone service stops working (cell phone usually in my pocket), with the mobile signal dropping down to zero bars.  So, I wouldn't be surprised if you experienced these or other electrical oddities when you are using HF.FYI, an inverter TIG welder can be run on aluminum with HF utilized for arc starting only (not needed for continuous operation on an inverter.)  So for aluminum welding, switching to an inverter-based machine (with HF starting only, rather than continuous HF for the AC welding operation) is one way to reduce your shop's exposure to HF.  Then you'll just need to make sure you've got a clean work/ground connection and tungsten (of the proper size, grind, and cleanliness for reliable arc starting), in those conditions you can weld AC aluminum with HF not being noticeably used at all.
