Well I've seen these on youtube and wanted to make one. It's pretty easy and straight forward. I copied it exactly. There is 3.7 volts at the tips but it won't weld. There are others with less volts and they weld fine. Can someone tell me where I'm going wrong?http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...925l3.6.3l12l0 Attached Images
Reply:Your not pushing enough amps through the tips, Its not the volts its the amps. Volts will blow holes and blow the tips off it, amps will weld. Basically Volts are electrical pressure (water in a garden hose) Amps are the volume of electrical flow. You basically built a squirt gun when you need a fire hose.
Reply:Some of these spot welders have a draw from the wall as high as 1600amps for a VERY short duration and thats just popping sheet metal together. Add a big capacitor in there somewhere and you might be capable of welding something
Reply:Thanks but I'm confused I used all the things they did in the videos how did they get theirs to work? Here is another one I found why does this one work?http://hackaday.com/2009/06/23/how-t...n-spot-welder/
Reply:Too many transformer windings, wire not big enough. As stated, you want MORE amps. I saw one with #2 wire on the secondary before even! Something like that or #3 (AWG) might work better. If that don't work, Get more transformers in parallel! overkill is always better. -Alex-AlexSears/Craftsman 230A Buzzy BoxSears/Craftsman 180A Buzzy BoxChicago Electric 80A InverterALL STICK...ALL THE TIME!I spent a lot of time with the square peg and round hole.
Reply:ArcSpark96 so the wire I'm using is to small and using let's say 2 wraps of #2 - #3AWG wire will boost the amps?Did you watch any of the youtube videos to see what they did?
Reply:I don't know electrical, and certainly don't know if this will help, but the instructions you sent said to make sure the wire length of the heavier gauge stuff is as short as possible.  Compared to their instructions, yours are quite long (from the secondary to the tips)The Lord has declared, "This is my work and my glory--to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man"  Moses 1:39Link: My name is John, and I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.-- ColdCreekWorks.com --
