Hello everyone, I've been trying to weld a piece of 12 gauge steel wire together with no success. As you can see in the picture below I need to weld the two ends together. I'm using and oxygen/acetylene torch, and I've made sure I have a neutral flame. Someone suggested I use the same steel wire to weld the two ends together, so I tried but the steel becomes too brittle and breaks. I've also tried using RG45 but I get the same results.Could anyone please tell me what I should do to accomplish this? Any help is greatly appreciated. I've already spend too much time and money trying to do this on my own. Thanks.

Reply:What kind of wire is it? Is it coated? What tip size and settings are you using?Use a very small tip on your torch - very small.Dave J.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Control the heat, try fusing. I used to to repair topiaries. Found that fuse welds worked well. Are your sure you have a neutral flame. Should only take 1-2 sec before fusing tempDont know how galvy will effect weld. |
