Here's my latest project. I have a 1969 Lincoln IdealARC TIG 300/300. It's a huge heavy thing. It makes the most beautiful ARC.The structure is 2x2 square tubing. It has 6" locking casters. On the front, you can just see the foot pedal storage on the lower right. There's a hook for the foot pedal cable, then a set of hangars for the ground wire, a set of hangars for the main TIG lines and at the top, a place to hang the torch. The top is plywood with Maple trim painted black. From the side view, you can see where the Bernard Cooler fits and the slide out box for ARC rod and other misc stuff. The tool box has all my TIG torch tips, etc. The black vertical tube next to the bottle is a holder for TIG rod that tilts out on a hinge for access to the wire. Attached Images
Reply:Looks great! Well thought out design!
Reply:I used one of those for 25 years and its still being used today. They had to be one of the finest tigs ever made. Mac

Reply:Will those wheels flat spot? Or are they a hard plastic?I have the same TIG machine and building a carriage for it is on the list.
Reply:What are you using for a power cord, I am having a hell of a time finding 4-6 gauge wire that is flexible enough to roll up. I really want to build a cart to condense all my welding equipment. Does that machine have H/F for aluminum?? Reply:I used flexible rubber cord for the power cord. I got it at home depot. Will look tomorrow to see what it's called. It has many small copper strands in each conductor and a thick rubber like casing. Tough as nails and expensive (about $5/ft).The wheels are hard poly, I don't think they will ever get a flat spot. I think they are great and have used them for several projects. I got them on eBay from a place called "Access Casters." Only $54 for a set of four, 6" casters. See the listing "6" Casters Poly on Poly Wheel 2 Rigid 2 Swivel BRAKE." The machine does have a High Frequency unit for Aluminum. It isn't square wave but welds Alum pretty well. Maybe if i were a better welder I would want a square wave machine.A while ago I built a cart for my MIG welder with all the other stuff, grinders, saw and all the miscellany I use to weld. It has worked great and I haven't outgrown it. Here's the thread for that cart:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=42811 |
