I have recieved my new dynasty and water cooled torch. I am considering running it for a few weeks on city water - dumping output down sink. I know my water runs at least 60 psi. so I would need some kind of pressure regulating device. and maybe a filter.( I am not done with my home made cooler just yet)Can I use a compressed air regulator for water use ?What would I use otherwise ?Tim
Reply:55- 60 psi is finecity water normally has alot of minerals in it which over time will restrict/ clog your torch headone of the reasons we run distilled water in the coolerMiller Xmt 350Lincoln Ln-25Ahp 200xSmith Gas Mixer AR/HTig is my Kung FuThrowing down dimes and weaving aboutInstagram http://instagram.com/[email protected]
Reply:No reg required. With one line dumping out open loop you won't experience 60lbs pressure you are good to go.Vinnie
Reply:They make inexpensive (under $20) 50psi pressure regulators for RV's that fit onto a hose fitting, to keep possible pressure spikes from blowing lines. Last time I got one, it was plastic, and from walmart (for a totally different application though).
Reply:rv store sell a garden hose pressure reduceing valves. I think they reg. it down to 50 psi. I'm sure they make a kinds. Like Vinnie said open loop. you should be good to goPound to fit, paint to match
Reply:As mentioned, the minerals will kill your torch in a short time. Get an inline water filter for your temporary set up.I am also thinking of buying the base machine and torch. Did you get a foot pedal or how are you planning to run the unit? Which torch kit did you get? From where did you order the machine? Thanks.Forgot to mention, check your water flow by timing how long it takes for the output to fill a gallon jug. Most torches require 1 to 1.5 quarts per minute. You should check the manual of your torch and be sure to set your water flow to match.Last edited by A/C Guy; 02-27-2011 at 06:56 PM.

Reply:AC Guy:I may not do it if it is going to corrode or react with the brass in the torch.I got it from the Lws which starts with "P" . They were very nice to me from the moment I camein the door. (Unlike the "big" place that starts with "A" ) They quoted me a price which was within10$ of the internet price right off the bat! I got the 200dx, foot pedal, water attachment and ack-20 rigid torch with 25 foot superflex lines. They gave me a deal on the torch that was flamminggood! I paid cash to them..... that might have helped some. The BIG store that starts with A acted like I was just a pest in their way. That was a crapload of $to me but I guess it wasn't worth bothering with for them ! The other place will get my monet from now on !I think the torch specs were about 1 Qt. per minuite. It was 1/2 the price of the similar wp-20 weldcraft.plus- it has a bigger water passage in the head so I liked that too. Hoses are soft rubber almost likesurgical tubing. I think they need some kind of cover to protect them a little. They look just likethe soft weldcraft ones. I hope to have the cooler done in another week - so I might just wait !I am building a double belt reduction unit to bring the pump RPM down to about 260 from 1725.I see now why the cooler makers don't do it. It is a lot of complication to make all of it adjustto tension the belts. It is 12 by 12 by 24 and should hold about 2-4 gallons internaly. Probablymore cooler than the welder needs ..... but I tend to overbuild things. ! I have to find a square stainless tub for the tank. Can't wait to get it going. Also have to build a cart and welding table !Tim
Reply:LWS clearly vary by location, so checking all the available stores is a good thing. I don't hesitate to critique or praise service quality as appropriate. Both Airgas and Praxair have management well above their store level, so tell them what you think!
Reply:You might look for a little needle valve (like in the kit for hooking up an ice maker in the freezer). Put the valve upstream from the torch, and let the return line be open to the atmosphere. You should be able to adjust the valve to get just the flow you want. I'd probably set the flow so the return water temp is warm, but not hot enough you can't hold your hand in it (120 maybe 130F). This way you aren't wasting too much water. This valve will act like a regulator. It will drop the pressure down from city line pressure to.. uh... whatever pressure it takes to make that much water flow through your torch. Who knows how much pressure that takes, and who cares anyway? It's the flow rate that's important.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE
Reply:I had a after market Harley performance shop in the 80s and my Miller machine was hooked up to city water......just be careful the city inspector doesn't catch you some cities will really nail you for hooking your cooling lines up to their water supply.....works good though......
