In going to start building turbo headers for my ford lightning, I need something to help me with the angles anybody have an idea where to get it? Links to the web? Also: if I'm going to doing alot of fab work, what would be the best cutting method bench band saw? I'm in a low budget Also Sent from my Stage 28 IPhoneFSAE CAR 1000cc Engine )))lincoln 125+argon conversion kit40cf acly 80 oxy= 97 jeep wrangler lifted 33" tires88 dodge dakota project truck
Reply:Moneymaker is on a low budget!!!!!!! Lets first hear what you have machine wise and tool wise. What process of welding is this gonna be, where are you getting your bends from, how low of a budget is low etc. etc. That will help us steer you in the right direction. Not sounding good already, but maybe we can help.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Well I happen to spend it before I make it, Miller Econotig I was going to buy already bent pipe and cut and weld it as I go, may be easier to bend it myself I suppose...1 7/8 pipeing And also 4" turbo back exhaust that I will fab up Sent from my Stage 28 IPhoneFSAE CAR 1000cc Engine )))lincoln 125+argon conversion kit40cf acly 80 oxy= 97 jeep wrangler lifted 33" tires88 dodge dakota project truck

Reply:Generally, tubing is used for headers, not pipe. Bending it, without collapsing it, requires some high dollar equipment.

Reply:Sorry I've never called exhaust pipe exhaust tubing lol ????And I need a angle tool not exhaust pipe Sent from my Stage 28 IPhoneFSAE CAR 1000cc Engine )))lincoln 125+argon conversion kit40cf acly 80 oxy= 97 jeep wrangler lifted 33" tires88 dodge dakota project truck
Reply:so you just need something to find angles for you? to bend the tubing a certain amount of degrees?? I don't think you're being very specific, even if you can see it in your own mind. Angles can apply to ANYTHING. 1st on WeldingWeb to have a scrolling sig! HTP Invertig 400HTP Invertig 221HTP ProPulse 300HTP ProPulse 200 x2HTP ProPulse 220MTSHTP Inverarc 200TLP HTP Microcut 875SC
Reply:Just my 2cents, but without pics of past projects it would be hours of talking about everything involved on how you could go about this. And just the fact based on what was given tells me you wanna do this cheap and fast, two things that never work together. Buy a kit and try and fool people that you did it yourself, or learn from experience, and experience comes from bad decisions. Just being honest bro, hope you don't take it the wrong way. Reply:For slicing sections out of already bent tube, I like to use a port-a-band saw. You may already have these. http://www.sears.com/craftsman-magne...a=00939840000Phttp://www.swansontoolstore.com/prod...FQE6QgodTGAAnQDont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:I have made probably 8 manifolds so far. Two for my cars and about 6 production pieces. I have never used any fancy angle tools or anything like that. The main tools would be a chop saw that can do angles, a 4.5" angle grinder with a cutoff wheel, hard disk, flap disk and wire wheel. Buy mandrel bends. No respectable manifold is made with crush bends and mandrel bending equipment is very expensive. For me getting the angles is just a matter of holding the bend in place, eyeballing it and occasionally using a sharpie to draw the desired angle while holding it in place. Next I go to the chop saw and cut it to that angle leaving it on the long side. Get the angle on the header flange right and then tack it in place. Do the exact same thing with the next piece. Sometimes I will need to fine tune the angle on the other end of the tacked piece, sometimes I can just match it to the next piece. Work all your tubing from the head down towards the turbo. I don't know if the diameter or bend radius will work for your application however I love this 11ga tubing here. http://www.mandrel-bends.com/catalog...-11-gauge-112/This will give you very thick heavy duty primaries that will last forever if welded half way decently. I order most of my material from them. They have a good selection and also most of the common flanges.Lincoln precision TIG 275Millermatic 140 MIG
Reply:Making a couple of assumptions - this is not a professional race truck running in some class with tight rules. So when you say 'header' what you mean is you want something reliable that doesn't have to be replaced every year. This also means you are not building a true 'tuned' header, but rather a solid 'manifold' that has decent flow.On a budget, for one of a kind exhaust, you DO NOT want to bend your own tubing (or pipe). The equipment to do so is way to expensive. When mounting a turbo (especially close to the block) you will need to make tight bends that can get really expensive. There are various companies that can make flanges. Some you send them a chaulk etching of your exhaust ports and they send you the flange.I would think building a custom system from pipe (like 11 gauge) would be the way to go. With quality welds it would last forever and if you have the budget you can get many of these fittings in stainless (at least 304 stainless). The tool to cut things with is a vertical band saw. Metal cutting ones are typically more expensive but they can be found. Here's an excellent page on techniques you can use. Not the tooling is rather expensive especially if you only build one set. I suspect some you could sell on Ebay and get some of your money back:http://www.jefflilly.com/fabrication...r-fabrication/Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
