Well I have ended up with title of "tool and die welder" which for the most part isn't that complicated. But yesterday my boss told me he wanted me to try to weld a broken cutter from die set back together. The cutter is roughly 6x6x6 with a v notch milled in one face. It is used to shear angle iron in a die set. The cutter spit all the way through starting in the bottom of the notch. It is made of S7 tool steel that has been hardened. We have an oven and we use Amtec 264 stick electrode for other welding on S7 but we haven't something like this before so any suggestions would be appreciated.Ranger 250 GXTSmith Gas Axe
Reply:yes, just build a new section.then check clearances to determine what caused the excess load.also, the section may not have been tempered correctly after hardening.miller thunderbolt 250vlincoln square wave tig 175 prolincoln idealarc mig sp250everlast tig 210EXTeverlast power plasma 50chicago electric (hf) 130 tig/90 arcchicago electric 90 amp flux wire3 sets oxy/acet
