What is the best type of wood to use to put between the sub frame of the body and the frame of the truck that its being mounted to.
Reply:dark oak.or pressure treated.G
Reply:What type of truck / application are you talking about?  As always, a photo goes a long way to explaining the situation.I don't think wood is used anywhere anymore in a truck manufacture.  In your title "new truck" I'm assuming its a brand new truck... answer = no wood anyplace.  (Use steel or a polymer / rubber / plastic material where isolation is required.).
Reply:I believe most heavy duty semi trailers use Apitong. I would NOT use pressure treated. I found out the difficult way that it is very corrosive. (Look in the "off topic" area for my "roof on the conex" thread.)"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:uhmw, wont ever rot or break apart.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/
Reply:Most new installations are steel to steel. Older trucks had rivets and bends in the frame that made some type of spacer necessary, most newer trucks have a flat frame rail.

Reply:I work at an Automotive test facility where a major truck builder is a customer.  When we install beds on their trucks they have us use oak in between truck and bed.  Most every truck I work on has straight frame rails.
Reply:I would use Ultra High Molecular Weight Plastic as a first choice the the entire rear end of my Murray lowbed carried 60,000 lbs on about 2 square feet of it.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I've built several beds and always used steel and never had any problems. I always worried about shrinkage in the wood.
Reply:I would add a vote for UHMW.  This is only if you think you need a buffer for some reason.  I would be just as happy with steel on steel and plenty of bolts.
