Which are the best electrodes to weld these grades of steel pipes ????Pipe welding of S355j2(+ N) with api 5L x60 ?
Reply:I guess 7010 for x60... don't take my word for it though, I've never done it. Just going off a chart I remember seeing before.S355j2 is equivalent to A656 in the states if I recall correctly? I would say go with ol' reliable. 6010/7018. You may want a more experienced member's advice, however.
Reply:akabadnews, you're on the right track. API X60 has a yield strength of 60 KSI, the other grade has a yield strength of 50 KSI. A656 isn't an exact equivalent, because that steel spec includes higher strength grades.Anyway, welding either grade separately, or joining them should be easily done with E7018 stick electrodes, E70S-X solid wire, or any E71T-1 class gas shielded flux core wire.Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:Thanks mates. I need your advice and thank you very much for your opinions.Just another question... How should be the preheat temperature for the best welability of these 2 diferent grades knowing that the thicknes of one pipe is 13mm and the other 22mm ? Can these steels be welded withought preheating ?Can i use this electrode for the root pass and filler passes ?Last edited by alban; 09-20-2013 at 03:48 AM.
Reply:Thanks for clarifying DAB.Preheating is getting more above my pay grade. A google search (lol) mentioned something about 100-200F, but again, don't go on what I say. I would ask your engineer or something.I would not use a 7018 for the root pass, but I was in a pretty informative argument that said it's possible. I would use 5P+/6010 for the root.Is there not a WPS for what you're doing?
Reply:Yes i agree . I chose the 6010 for the root and the 7018 for filler passes. |
