I am wondering if its worth buying plans and axle kit to build a nice pipe top 20' tag trailer. If its the same as buying one then that is what I will do. Has anyone run the numbers.
Reply:Unless you need a custom trailer of some sort, it's almost always cheaper to buy vs build if you value your labor time at all. If money is an issue I'd buy used and be done with it before I'd even thinking about building my own. If I needed custom features I'd still buy a used one and then modify whatever was necessary. If there's ever an incident with your homebuilt trailer, you the builder are going to be the one being picked apart in court. Trailers are really very simple devices, which encourages every Tom, Dick, and Harry to build their own, regardless of whether Tom, Dick, and Harry have even seen a welder before. You should see the "trailer" I just listed this evening in the for sale section on this site. |
