This is my rod oven. i made another thread just figuring out how to cut the pipe for it way back when .i used 6 inch pipe left over from a well site that i guess they left  behind i have no idea way they would  do such a thing .and to make it hot in side i used a light bulb fixture and a very powerful light bulb and wired it up to a switch. it gets pretty toasty in there to keep the moisture away  works very well for what i need it to do . Reply:did you insilate to help hold the heat in so you use less energy or anything just courious because I have been kicking around the idea of making one.
Reply:"why they would leave stuff beind" made me laugh coz i remembered a company i used to work for..it was run by two brothers who were taking it over from their dad..they had a ton of IBM work back when ibm built a lot..neither would let the old man know they had fuffed something up..one of them really screwedup and shipped an extra thousand feet of pipe to a project..he paid an operator to dig a hole and bury the pipe rather than send it back to the shop..nice job on the oven..
Reply:yes i did insulate it . here is what i did i fist used high heat paint to keep the heat in . Then i  had some heat cloth thing laying around inside it . the cloth is silver that retains heat and that's all i did .And you should definitely build your self one .
Reply:Gonna build one of these soon.  A friend of mine told me about doing this a few years ago, and I didn't do it then, but gonna go to walmart and pick up a cheap light fixture, and some extra bulbs as they are gonna be hard to find at some point.

Reply:It may not hold the heat in, but it will absorb the heat and the metal will hold the heat.  Sounds like he used mylar to hold the heat in as well.  How long do you think it should hold the heat in after the lights off?

Reply:The paint takes the heat and keeps the metal from rusting.  I agree, that you should probubly add some insulation somehow, have it be a thin metal center with a thick outer metal layer, with a layer of insulation inbetween.  I would think sprayfoam insulation would work.  I bet it works none the less and keeps the rods warm, and dry.
Reply:I kinda doubt that thing is getting hot enough to do the intended job.My name's not Jim....
Reply:Our ovens at work stay at a constant 250 degrees.
Reply:I think it will work.  A 100w light bulb puts off a lot of heat, and is intended to be on for long periods of time.  Need someone to build one that has a laser thermometer and see what it gets too.  We aren't tallking about hippie cpf you know.
