I picked up a bunch of free powder coated aluminum square tubing. Thought it was a great deal until I tried to remove the powder coat.I don't want to sand or grind it off and contaminate the aluminum. I tried heating it with a map gas torch and it just turned into a sticky goo.any suggestions? Thanks,Chip
Reply:sand it off, your going to have to deal with the contamination later. It's basically plastic and can be burned off but the smoke and time not to mention the residual contamination is going to cause you problems, could also pull the heat treat out of the tubing and leave you with a bunch of sticks of butter soft material.
Reply:sell to the scrape guy and buy new your labor cost will be to high cleaning the powder off.
Reply:Caustic is good for removing powder coat, not sure if it will affect the Ali though.Cheers Andrew
