well ive got a local scrap dealer who bought a lot of six from a local community college said he bought them for the copper and would sell them for scrap price of 350 problem is he just has the power source no pedals or torches  was wondering if i got one and it needs repair how expensive is t to work on this machine ive heard there a solid unit  was thinking i could get one of these and sell my precision tig 185 350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:Hello umahunter, the dx's haven't been out that terribly long if they are indeed dx's. That being said, they are transformer/rectifier machines and solidly based, they do have a few boards in them and the other circuitry to provide HF. Yet, all in all I would doubt that when a lot of six was purchased that they have any major issues, it is more likely that the school's surplus system is as screwed up as the one in our state and it was simpler to sell them in that manner than go through all of the various state governmental hoops to realize a better monetary return. If I were in your shoes I would go for it. $350 is certainly a very good price and purchasing the other peripherals will still leave you in a very good spot money wise. Reply:Buy em up, it's a deal & usually not too expensive to fix up.  working, & cleaned up you could probably get $1000.00 each.  If they were closer to me I'd be asking you for the guy's phone #. Buy American, or don't whine when you end up on the bread line.

On second thought I'd make that 2 instead...  I have no idea where I'd put it right now, but I'd make the space. Reply:Like others have already stated. A golden opportunity to have a free welder by buying them all and selling for enough to cover the cost of the one you keep plus a bunch. Reply:umahunter, go with the 230 choice. There is also generally a +/- 10% variance on voltage hook-up, however, the 230 will most closely match your available power from what you have stated. Best regards, Allanaevald

Reply:Yea those aren't DX's but still a steal at $350. I paid $3300 for my 09 DX machine which was still a great deal IMO.
