Pin puller

I needed to pull some 50mm x 120 mm pins from some shipping flatracks. The pins are blind which required pulling them. I made a small tool from some scrap I had laying around. I started by making adater that will accept a 12mm x 1.75  socket cap screw and allow a threaded bolt on the other side. Basically I drilled a 1/2" hole though some 1-3/8" round bar. I then drilled three quarters the way though with a 3/4" drill. I bored to final dimension and cleaned up the bottom. I then tapped the piece for 7/8-9 thread. Photo 1 to 3.I then dug out the rest of the bits from the scrap bin. A couple pieces of tubing, a 7/8" square bolt (no idea where I got it), a thrust bearing and some plate. I did have to spring for a nut and washer.Photo 4: I had to chase the threads in the pin. They were slightly undersized. This really caused me grieve when I was trying to identify the thread. Reply:I had to pull the pins in two pulls due to the shortness of the bolt. The first pull takes it about 1/2" out. The second longer tube finishes it off. It took a lot of hard turning. At least I didn't break any bolts. I have four more to pull on Monday. I'm sure there is a 100 ways to do this. I thought maybe someone would find the adapter and easy solution. Reply:Thanks for showing your puller - that was a great idea. I have some pins on a excavator to pull and this will be a to do then without messing things up. Now to find a machine shop to build it for me , thats one trait i never learned .
Reply:Most of the pins I encounter are not drilled and tapped, but also not usually in a blind hole.The adapter is nice.   I keep seeing reasons why I need a lathe.
Reply:yea porta power with hollow center ram is the way i do it .   but in a pinch i'd of gone with your method.
