Reply:Looks good. But I like my bathtub and use it everyday?
Reply:some chaps look down on guys that run rigs out of pickup beds... "bathtub rigs" Which I understand to an extent. But I like the "sleeper" rig look just the same and have no prejudice. different strokes for different folks. This is just a dry run for me, Machine is already off the truck again. I was just looking at the space and clearance issues and accessibility. If anyone has any picks of SA's in their pickup bed Id love to see mounting details, provisions for oil changes ect. The only way mine fits is if its 4 inches up off the bed, which is prefect for a little skid frame to be built. Leaving room for a ball valve and hose off the oil pan. Id love to see how people are mounting their machines. Theres alot of creative people on here!Local 597
Reply:Nice job citizen and excellent thread.  Machine looks good in there. All you need to do now is chop it so you can still see out your back window.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I have mine in a pickup bed.  I cut a square hole in the bed for oil changes.  An't a damn thing wrong with tub'n it.  If you're making money and happy with it, who cares ? ?  Besides, look at all the time and money you saved build'n a bed.  just my 2 cents.
Reply:I have no idea about access to anything else, but a lot of boaters use suction devices to change the oil in inboard engines.  The seem a little slow, but are in common use.  Just hand pump to draw a vacuume on a small tank, stick a tube in the dipstick hole and open a small valve.
Reply:For a couple hundred bucks you can get a 12 volt pump to suck the oil out they also make air operated onesMillermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:Im thinking Ill just try and find or make a bushing to go into the drain plug threads. the hard part is that the pan threads straight thread.... Good thing I have a lathe. maybe I can just npt tap the back side of the plug, add a street 45 and a ball valve with a hose.Local 597
Reply:I dont have pics of it but back in the mid 90s I had a 70 1/2 ton ford with helper springs added and had an old lincoln 300 amp dc only rig. With out the helper springs it bottomed out the old 1/2 ton but with the springs it worked fine. Even had a bottle mount made to go on the inside of the bed. It worked and made me money none the less. I never had any of the local welders with fancy trucks say anything about it. I would love to have that old machine back, I dont even know where it got off to after I sold it.
Reply:When I was in my late 20's I was a residential framing contractor. I had a toyota standard cab 3/4 ton pickup with a ladder rack, toolbox  and , in the rear of the bed, a generator and compressor bolted down and double nutted. Needed add a leafs to keep the truck level with all my ladders , tools, supplies etc in it. Truck did ok except for an adventure with 25 sheets of plywood on the rack  and 20 miles covered at 20 mph (it made it without incident, just took forever). All my friends had fancy truck and trailer rigs. They never scoffed at my lil truck cause it was easier to drive, got better mileage, and I could park it anywhere. Bigger is not necessarily better. If you can have materials dropped at your job site, a pickup is a real good all around solution.Mike

Reply:Hey lincweld, do you got any pics of the machine mounting in the bed? Id love to get some ideas. Saw a rig on the highway today- newer chevy with an sa200 sideways in the bed. would have loved to have seen how he had it mounted. Has anyone out there ever mounted via longer bed bolts? Like ordering a set of bed bolts 5 inches longer and then bolting their skid down via the same hole and bolt as the bed itself?Local 597
Reply:don't over think it.  all i did was attach 4 pieces of angle to the frame of the welder, then drilll holes through angle and bed.  then bolt it.  make sure you have a way of changing the oil- through sucking it out or, through the bottom of the bed.  that's what i did.  a little square hole in the bottom.  weld it back on when you sell the truck. just my 2 cents and Good Luck !!
Reply:You stole my truck lol, i want a new superduty, but cant warrant it at the time being.
