i'm curious to know if there is a preferred grit on flap discs for cleaning welds?
Reply:I don't use a flap disc to clean my welds. Instead, I use a wire wheel (along with wire brush and chipping hammer). I do use a flap disc to grind down the table though. Right now I am using 40 grit. I'll probably get 80 grit next. Just my two cents.
Reply:A few strokes with a wire brush should be enough.Oh, you're using solid flux? Ewwww. Never touch the stuff.Be wary of The Numbers: Figures don't lie,. but liars can figure.Welders:2008 Lincoln 140 GMAW&FCAW2012 HF 165 'toy' GTAW&SMAW1970's Cobbled together O/A

Reply:Depends on the weld, of course. I use 24, 40, and 60 grit flap discs. If I need anything finer, it's time for Scotchbrite discs.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps |
