I know you guys get tired of seeing tables but here goes another table post. I just finished this one today. it has a 1/4" 3ft.x4ft. top. Legs are 1 1/2"x1 1/2"x 3/16 wall. frame under top is 1"x2"x1/8 wall. It also has 1"x1"x 1/8" wall baces on the legs. 1/2 13 bolts on the bottom of legs for levelers. Feels pretty solid. I would like to biuld one with heavier material but money dictated the materials I was able to use.
Reply:The center picture, supposed to be on the bottom, is my other table I built and is now a dedicated vice stand.
Reply:Great looking table! I wish I had one just like it.Burt _____________________Miller Syncrowave 250Millermatic 211Miller 375 Plasma Cutter Hobart Handler 12010FtDrillBit.com
Reply:I see shin pain in your future. The lower tube that connects the legs together up front will make it difficult to get your legs under the top for leverage etc. as well as being a great place to whack your shins into, If you were to move the front bar back, even by a foot, you could eliminate the hazard and have enough room to slip a stool under the top for seated work, especially if you TIG or do 'delicate' work or figure out things on drawings and still leave you enough room to put in a lower shelf for tool storage and short ends. I made my shelf with expanded steel so that grinding dust, etc. dosen't collect. I also put in a bar between the legs along the side a few inches below the top to store clamps, with enough room for clearance from the top and to keep them within comfortable reach and a quad electrical box on the other side so that I can keep my grinders plugged in without having a trip hazard under foot or power cords to cut from material falling to the floor Just a couple of suggestions to help you get the most out of your new table. Looks good, that table should bring you many hours of joy.
Reply:The table looks real good and beats the H#ll out of working off the floor or just saw horses. I can see a shelf added to the braces between the legs, the expanded metal idea is good to keep dust accumalation down, just add some bracng . I may have to add the electrical receiptacles to mine too, at least a quad outlet. Here's what I recently added to mine, I don't know if you have this in the plans or not, but check it out.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=88711
Reply:I actually have a reciever hitch that bolts to the bottom of a bumper that I plan to weld to the bottom of the plate on my vice stand. It takes 2x2 tubing. I want to mount sevral items on plates with 2x2 tubing sticking out to fit in the reciever and pin in place. I have some flat stock that I thought about using for a bottom shelf with expanded metal for the shelf part. |
