I was just reading about a guy that used a Hobart Stickmate as a power source for Tig Welding.  How did he do that?  If this is something that is common knowledge, what additional equipment is required to convert an AC/DC stick welder into a Tig welder?
Reply:A bottle of Argon, regulator and torch with a built in valve to turn the gas on and off.  That's it, I believe.  The machines that come as "TIG Machines" have a built in solenoid valve to turn the gas on and off;  Your stick welder most likely don't, so you need the TIG torch with the built in valve.  Also you will not be able to put a pedal on for regulating the current on a regular stick welder, so you just set the welding current as you do when stick welding.
Reply:Canonical scratch-start TIG thread with parts list.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=38106
