Hey yall!!So, Ive got a pretty simple little job coming up here, and it requires about 30 "roughly" shaped rings. I figured that I was going to need something to make them with, and since I cant really afford to buy anything right now, I hit the steel yard for some two-ish inch pipe and some light duty channel. Put everything together and tried it out, and truth be told, it works better than I ever thought it would lol. I tigged everything with my scratch start setup and the stickmate. If I were going to build this again, I would make the pieces that hole the "side rollers" way longer and put more holes in them. Also, I would run two staggered rows of holes instead of one main one. Anyway, just wanted to share these videos, hope you all enjoy them and that this post finds you well. Feedback is always welcome, especially on my tig welds. I wanna get better at that... Reply:That is pretty sweet.  How did you get that piece of steel back off of the roller after you were done?Jeff
Reply:Lanse,   I love your energy and drive.  Very upbeat and motivational.  And yes you will learn from your mistakes, too.  We all make 'em, thats how you learn.I will say, electrons are cheaper than steel. Its time to learn to use a CAD system...  I'd recommend Sketch-up, free from google.  Make your first model there, then ask yourself, what can go wrong, what improvements can I make?  Then throw away first model, create 2nd model.  Ask same questions again.  Then you are ready to burn some steel.  You wont catch all the problems using CAD, but its a faster, cheaper way to get there.  (paper and pencil will also work kinda, sorta, but doing it in sketch up makes you think about how each and every piece will fit together..)good luck... EEEhaw!
Reply:Lanse, If you look back at some of the ring roller posted on here in the past, you'll see that you need to have at least one roller to be ajustable with some sort of jack or crank so you can start out flat and keep ajusting until you get the size you need. Your setup will be difficult to start as you found out and it will only do one size until you change one roller height. Yours works, but it could work better.

Reply:I think you should look at the design a little bit, most ring rollers have a way of adjusting one or more of the rollers to change the radius of the rings. This will also let you put the stock in without bending it first. All iy needs is a cheep bottle jack and a little redesign. Other than that it looks great. I really enjoy watching all the videos you make for youtube.

Reply:Lanse, nice work, keep pluggin' away.  one question.  i saw a plasma cutter in the back ground of one of your videos, how come you didn't use that to make your pipe plugs?  you might have been able to make them closer to the desirable size.  keep at it.  i will be following the progress.Dave.
