6011 rod motion

I just got an old 220v Craftsman buzzbox, and some smaller than 1/8" 6011 for free. It is my first attempt at welding outside of the 2 courses I took at the local VOTEC.I began learning stick on an Idealarc, mostly DC+. I prefer the wheel over the digital; I feel it makes me more in tune with my puddle as I adjust to the change in workpiece temp on multiple passes. I can most likely pass a 3/8" flat test, according to the instructor. I did a lot of 7018, and 6010. I actually like 6010. I am told this is not "normal" hehe.Do I use the stop, pull away and go back 6010 motion, or a steady motion for stringer beads?Are 6011 rods suitable for root pass gap or no?What are my chances of using this to install a welded cat-back exhaust system on my Jeep? I know I'll need a less penetrating rod, probably ss. Suggestions? I can borrow a 120v MIG, but have never shot wire. Yet.
Reply:6011is the one rod that can be ran in a whip method to make sawtooth type weld beads.  a bit like the stack of dime tig welds but sharper edges on the dimes. use some 1/16" 6013 for your exhaust,  harbor freight carries it too.  it works real nice for doing thin stuff around 20-40 amps.  I recently welded up a hot water pressure washer coil for a buddy.  had to stick cuz it was the only thing that would fit in between the coils. just ran a bunch of overlapping beads.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Thanks for the reply. I have read 6013 is a good fit for the application. I am concerned about rust out though.
Reply:They make a special paint for welded exhaust pipes that is supposed to help. The small mig would work too, nice for tight areas.
