i sold my old gas welder the other day.i need a portable welder. i think i will get a inverter and plug it into my 5500 wat generator.i was looking at the ta 95 ,but i need to burn 1/8 rods.so i need one up to about 150.which one do you get ?
Reply:Probably one of the Maxstars or a Dynasty 200 depending on what sort of work you do. Is the gen set 5500 peak, or continuous? If it's peak, the gen set may end up being the limiting factor on 220v power to either of the machines as far as running 1/8" rods. The Dynasty's are supposed to run 6010 well, where many have had issues running 6010 on the Maxstar 150 ( not sure about the 200). If your work requires you to run 6010 for code work, the Dynasty would probably be a better choice. If you just run 7018, any of these will do well..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Lincoln and Esab make units too that would probably fit your needs
Reply:1/8 rod puts you over most "portable" inverter welders. The above mentioned 200 Maxstar or similar would fit the bill. 240v and input amperage might be too much for a 5500w genny. The above posted link is likely Boostinjdm's thread doing exactly what you mentioned.Lincoln Power MIG 210 MP ( boat anchor )Lincoln Weld-Pac 100 HDHobart IronMan 230Cutmaster 42Jackson NexGenSumner Ultra ClampsDWM120

Reply:boostinjdm can you run the maxstar at the full 150 amps on that generator ?
Reply:I can tell u what not to get.... any of the ChiCom chit sold on ebay or the likes or the stuff on 2 certain forums  here....  sell the genny and get an engine driven welder..  better quality power and unlimited stick welding time for the most part.    there are a couple of  small gen sized welders out thereTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Lugweld,  care to name those Companies who have converted their fleets.  at least miller, lincoln, esab actually have reputable warranty and can get parts and service at just about any LWS!   Also what happened to your response to the warranty fine print in the More Everlast games thread????? Reply:I love it.A paid shill for Chi-Com junk, chasing a customer all over the boards.I'd also be interested in learning the name of the companies who are "trading in their fleets of Maxstars" for junk.  Interested because if I own stock in any of those companies, I'm selling cause they're closing the doors soon.Come on Luggy.  The ball is in your court now.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:One of the customers I am referring to bought them from Florida Gas Supply in Miami area, our dealer in that area.  They have sold a bunch of them with no issues.  I will not name names of companies without permission, but a dealer I will.   I have another  that bought our several I Tigs for use with their cnc based welder, AFTER they put them through a 4 month trial period on a single item purchase.  Several companies have bought multiple units for use.  I will not get into a war with a well known malcontent on several boards.   It is what it is.  Like it or not. Believe it or not. The only fool is the one who chooses to stick his finger in his ears and remain ignorant. My point is that the welders referred to by several brands ARE chi com.Southpaw, go there now and read my response.Last edited by lugweld; 06-15-2011 at 03:51 PM.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT
Reply:Almost everything is made in china now. My friend bought 350amp digital tig inverter for 4000euros from well known eu company(don't wanna name it). We opened it and all pcb boards are made in china, it is just assembled in eu.Let me tell you this story- My local factory is making some parts for Saab an VW. Then they send these parts to czech republic where they are painted. And guess what - it's written that parts are made in czech republic. And sorry for my poor english.
Reply:i know sanrex (sansha electric) also the makers of the thermal arc tig welders hold patents on certain electronics that are used in american welders, many are aware of this..  there is no way around it for the manufacturers...   but these certain manufacturers uphold and demand a very high quality standard, no pirated mosfets or other components for sure....  the thermal arc or sanrex name are known worldwide for their dependability, from what i was told they are sold mainly in europe, asia, and australia i done some digging around last year, and had talked to a guy at Sanrex in New York as i was trying to acquire a 300amp Sanrex welder without going through thermaldyne.. trying to get rid of thermaldynes huge markup..  these machines would be way cheaper without the thermaldyne mark up...  Sanrex wont sell in the U.S. due to the contract with thermaldyne.. from what i've seen from the foreign made chicom plasmas and welders on ebay and such there is  huge markup on the ones being sold... even the branded ones with warranty have a huge markup on them, well over 100%..  all you have to do is look on that alibaba trade site...  its not difficult to price them and its definetly not hard to get pricing and shipping information... would be easy to become your own dealer if you wanted to.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:boostinjdm is your generator a clean power one or a regular one.
Reply:Just your regular run of the mill generator.  I emailed miller to ask if there would be any issues with the electronics in the welder.  They said, "you should be good". That's it.My name's not Jim....

Reply:+1 on the maxstar 150 line. Stick welding with my 150stl is an absolute joy. Just make sure it's going to put out the amperage at the duty cycle you require, otherwise it's just a toy!I have had some problems with 6011 but supposedly there is a free fix for that. The new ones might even come with it. But it seems to just confuse the welder. I just turn it off and on again and it has no problems. It seems to have the most issues with hot restarting, or if I bury the rod too deep for too long.

Reply:I called Miller about it, and they said it was a common issue and there is a plug in fix that they do for free at repair centers. I'm told that the newer ones have this problem fixed already, yours might be included in that.
Reply:I have an Everlast PP256 at home, which so far (3wks) has been welding just as good as the Miller 200DX at work, at one third the cost. There were some minor issues regarding transport damage but they were resolved quickly, & tech support was very prompt & helpful.I'll let all know if things change, but for now I am a satisfied customer regarding Everlast.-at the job-Miller Dynasty 200DXMiller Syncrowave 350MillerMatic 250Millermatic 350Miller Bobcat 250Lincoln AC225Miller Spectrum 625 Plasma-at home-Everlast PP256Longevity WeldAll 256PI'slow is smooth, smooth is fast'
