Found a 1978 airco big40 was used at highway dept maintenance shop since it was new. It was sold at auction to a farmer down the road a few years ago and he never uses it. My dad works at hwy shop and knows the history and says well worth getting it. He wants 1000 bucks for it. It has the red seal engine just like my sa200. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it? Reply:I read in your thread about your 301G weak arc that you have a 1976 SA-200. I have a 1974 SA-200. A Miller Big 40 welds about the same as my 1974. But not even on the same planet as my 1964, or 1966 Red Face SA-200s. Does that Airco Big 40 look something like this? Reply:That's good to hear. I've never ran the older red face. Maybe one day I'll get to. I'm pretty sure that's the look of the airco big 40Miller trailblazer301gLincoln sa200Miller251Miller spectrum 625Victor oxy-acc2002 Chevy duramax 3500 dually 4x4
Reply:Back in the late 70s early 80s seems like all you seen on heavy civil construction sites were Miller Big 40s. I think the reason was, purchasing agents who didn't have a clue were buying them because they were cheaper than the SAE-400s. In my opinion there is no comparison between the SAE-400s and the Big 40s.Dont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:I don't see a lot of sa/sae's around my neck of the woods. I guess cause there's not too many pipeliners here. I do know where an old sa200 is. It's pretty rough but I should try to get it.
