It feels so good to be welding again....We moved last December (2010) to a place with no shop, but with the plans of putting on up...Finally got most of the shop built and power in the ground so I'm no longer stuck with just 110....Had to go digging through boxes to find my welding gloves (of which I found 3 rights and one left?) and sleeves....The old shop was a 24x24 two car, packed on my side with my junk, and my wife's car on the other.... The new place has a 12x20 shed, that all my stuff moved into while the shop was built...The new shop is 40x80, so I'll be fine size wise for a year or two....But now, I'm closing in on finishing the shop and finally getting my Torchmate up and running. Which I bought in April of last year, and haven't done anything to it other than look at it....Which brings me to the point of this thread....Cut and laid out the top of the table...The grate is from an old floor furnace, and will be used for hand cutting things...Cut the legs and lower braces....Finally started doing some welding.....Which other than a quick pair of volleyball poles, I haven't done in over a year....Will post more as I get things accomplished......

Reply:Nice idea having the CNC and manual cutting areas together.  May want to throw a piece of scrap sheet metal up between the two when cutting manually to keep the leadscrew on that side clean.

Reply:Totally jealous.
Reply:Very nice.
Reply:Thanks guys....I am going to enclose the table and duct it to a high volume fan to exhaust everything from the shop....The front will be held in place by some kind of easy open clips. Was going to do magnets, but am thinking they may collect too much debris..... Also am going to put a plate under the Torchmate slanted toward the front, so if anything falls through the slats, it will end up at the front.... I wouldn't want to crawl under there to retrieve any parts after a few uses..... Plus that will give everything time to cool down some before heading to the outside of the building......
Reply:Put in the "parts that fall through the slats slipper-slide" in and started skinning it......
Reply:Neat to see a non water-tray build.  At first I was thinking that parts falling through on the deep end of the slide would be falling a long way and prone to damage, but if they're small enough to fall through, they're probably not that heavy.  I would just keep whatever surfaces that parts fall onto made of lighter gauge sheet.  That way the sheet can flex / dent and be abused instead of the parts that fall through.
Reply:Getting some skinning done....
