If anyone needs help for stand Ideas this should help. What I was previously practicing 6G didn't work, so out of frustration I came up with this . I made it where you don't have to tack the pipe to the stand. Attached Images
Reply:And I know the weld is ugly lol . Practice practice

Reply:That's a good idea. I'll have to take a pic of my jury rigged setup I'm sure it will get a few laughs.1973 Lincoln SA 200, Already replaced shunt coils, Idle board (SOLD)1984 Miller Dialarc 250HF, Miller water cooler, 250 AMP water cooled torch, you know the worx.
Reply:welp here goes. . .and i got sick of the pipe moving when i was grinding or welding on it so yes for those of you that noticed that is a 5/32 6010 welding rod jury rigged as a gusset.1973 Lincoln SA 200, Already replaced shunt coils, Idle board (SOLD)1984 Miller Dialarc 250HF, Miller water cooler, 250 AMP water cooled torch, you know the worx.
Reply:all we use for testing is a 2 1/2" x 3/8" x 24" long piece of flat bar cut at a 45* angle, with a piece of 3"x3" x 3/8" piece welded on to that, the flat bar is drilled and tapped for our purge fittings for our stainless, inconel, and chromoly. We then clamp it in a vice and essentially we can walk around the entire pipe freely. I HATE jigs with a pipe coming up out of the vice, and then another leading out to the 45* angle, makes it a pain in the *** for tig roots.
Reply:Haha good stuff Tuscany,I love the fact that you can wheel your way around
Reply:lol yeah it works ok except that one of the rubber wheels dry rotted and ripped the rubber off of the wheel so to speak so its kind of like trying to roll a retarded shopping cart from wally world around my driveway. lol it gets the job done.1973 Lincoln SA 200, Already replaced shunt coils, Idle board (SOLD)1984 Miller Dialarc 250HF, Miller water cooler, 250 AMP water cooled torch, you know the worx.
Reply:lol and i dont even need to walk to the other side to weld it up i just roll the pipe to me. hahaha1973 Lincoln SA 200, Already replaced shunt coils, Idle board (SOLD)1984 Miller Dialarc 250HF, Miller water cooler, 250 AMP water cooled torch, you know the worx.

Reply:He was talking about rolling the pipe stand around so that I could weld up the other side of the pipe would fail me which is not true. As I stated earlier You can move the fixture that the pipe is attached to up, down, or side to side all you want as long as you don't remove the pipe from the fixture or roll the pipe in the fixture so you could weld in the same position on the pipe or change the angle of the pipe. Other than that you can move the fixture all you want.1973 Lincoln SA 200, Already replaced shunt coils, Idle board (SOLD)1984 Miller Dialarc 250HF, Miller water cooler, 250 AMP water cooled torch, you know the worx.

Reply:i read your post wrong i guess, i thought you meant, "you dont have to WALK to the other side of the pipe to weld it up as you would just ROLL the pipe to you" as in staying in position where your standing, just rolling the pipe to weld up the other side.

Reply:Might just be different for us as we test 6 different alloy high pressure tickets a year, our tester dosent allow any movement. By rights you shouldnt need any really. Ive been doing pressure welding for many years and have never encountered any testing facility that allows for the pipe stand to roll around. Might be just me being arrogant but why bother moving the test stand up down, left right? takes the skill out of the test in my opinion, Testing for your annual ticket(s) should be exactly like doing a pressure weld in your plant, definatly cant move any piping systems to your liking to allow for more comfort.
