I recently purchased a 200A pulsed inverter based TIG welder (DC only) for a decent price. The unit can be set to stick welding and also 2T or 4T TIG (unfortunately without foot pedal). Questions:Would it be feasible to mount a MIG style spool gun (or another wire feed unit) for Alu welding to this machine? (Assuming I can obtain the correct voltage / current to drive the gun rollers - perhaps from an external source). Will the DC current work well for MIG? Pulsing is however only between 0.5 and 25 Hz (slow). Cheers!
Reply:Not really. Your machine is Constant Current. To do mig you really need a Constant Voltage powersource..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:You need to look at spoolguns or suitcase wirefeeders that are made to work with a CC power source. They can be expensive, but they are your only option.Have we all gone mad? |
