Reply:It can pay to shop around. My business insurance is way cheaper thru my insurance broker than it is thru my auto insurance company and vise versa. I forget what my 15K rider costs, but the whole 1mil / 2mil general liability policy with the rider is less than $1K a year. Shopping thru a broker can help.S&W sounds like a great idea, but I haven't seen bullets yet that stop tornadoes, or fires. You also can't cover your stuff 24/7.Mostly the point is many guys think that their auto policy will cover contents of the vehicle. It won't usually. Guys think their home owners policy will cover their stuff if they get broken into. Sadly as Jonathan found out, most insurance companies find a way to weasel out. Same applies to any expensive items you own, be it camera gear, scuba equipment, tools etc. They WILL find a way to not cover it if they can. It pays to know upfront that you are not covered so you can decide if it's worth it to take that risk. In some cases it's simply giving them a list with approximate values. In others, it means adding more insurance specifically aimed at items, and you have to pay extra..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
