Ok guys. Is anyone from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, or the Tri-cities Tennessee? Was wondering if anyone had any scrap laying around as far as pipe goes any size really. Or thicker pieces of metal. I'm not trying to have anyones sympathy or anything like. I just dont have the resources to go out and buy some expensive metal. For me to practice on. I'm kinda regretting this whole school thing. I start in January. But I'm not sure if I can even make it till the end of the semester. Led alone 2 whole years. Anyone wanna chime in on this aspect as far as school goes. (Pipe welding mainly) or some scrap steel you may have laying around. Honestly if needed. And once I get back on my feet and making good money I can reimburse you. Just not right now. Thanks guys. Also is their any pipe welders that are in  North Carolina? That I may be able to get some information from. Sent from my Nexus 4 using TapatalkUsing Tapatalk
Reply:Hey there young man.....You have your whole life in front of you. You can suck it up and get a good education / training / etc or you can go get a "job" and really regret your choices. I will bet you that if you will just put your shoulder into it that school will be a great chapter in your life, but you have to change how you are thinking. You can't regret it before you try it? As for pipe, keep your eyes peeled and put an ad in your local craigslist. Don't limit yourself to just pipe. Go get em!

Reply:As a suggestion you might check with some of your local fab shops.  Back in the early 70s I would borrow a couple hundred lbs of scrap from their dumpsters. I would weld on the scrap for a week.  Take it back 20 to 40 lbs heavier. Dump in in their dumpster with my welds on it and the would let me have a couple more hundred pounds. They always gained wt and I always had something to Weld on. You may have to get your instructor to vouch for you..try it. The first one may not help you   Don't quite trying. Richey

Reply:Go to "My Profile" in the top line of this page and fill in your details. If we can see what town you live in there might even be one of us in the same town or very close by that could help you get going with some scrap loans, etc. North Carolina is a big State and you shouldn't have to drive a long ways for this. For starters, look for machine, welding, and fabrication shops in your local yellow pages and go visit them. A phone call won't likely  work. You will need to see them "in person". Explain your need and see if they will "loan" or "sell" you some scrap. You may have to pay for the first pieces, but once they see you bring it all back heavier than it was I doubt that they will charge you for any more of it.CharleyMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.
