5F Pipe to Plate, 1/4" round stock, 45 outside corner, 3G on a 45, 2 Horizontals. and pen for both horizontals and verticalI have to work on my stops and restarts. Tell me what you think. Attached ImagesLast edited by BlackGT97; 05-03-2012 at 01:05 AM.

Reply:Not bad all around. I'll agree your start/stops need  a bit of work.I'd tighten up my weave some. I'd probably advance 1/2 to 1/3rd as far on each movement. Move side to side faster and don't advance as far with each forward progression. I watch the puddle and as soon as it reaches the arc, I'm swinging to the other side and moving forward maybe 2-3X the wire diameter max.Your horizontal stringers look a bit cold in the 1st pict of the last set. They also don't look as nice and straight as I'd like. Part of the "cold" look might be due to the inconsistency I see in travel speed and the wobble up and down as you traveled, overlapping the lower bead a bit more or less as you moved along. This would prevent the nice smooth seam I'd be looking for between the 2 passes. I'm guessing you are not supporting yourself as well as you could. Get comfortable, and don't be scared to rest your other hand on the plate as a guide to help steady the gun. I see a lot of guys try to hold the gun in both hands  at arms length, and get a shaky bead like I see in that pict. The 3rd pict in the 2nd post I see similar issues in the horizontal at the bottom of the pict as I do in the one above, but the heat looks a bit better. As mentioned the start/stop needs some work. The top stringer in that lower horizontal horizontal weld on the right in that pict. looks the best of all of them. It's got that nice smooth straight look I'd be looking for. Also I'm  personally I'm not a big fan of the "mig like tig" look I see in the top weld in the 3rd pict of the last set. You need to tighten up your circles if you are going to do that motion. Just like the weave, you need to progress forward less with each motion. You are leaving lots of places for stress risers.Last edited by DSW; 05-03-2012 at 04:46 AM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Thanks. The top weld in the third picture is a weave. I was trying different techniques to see what gave me the best results. And I'll definitley work on the restarts and tighten the weave.
