welding yesterday my aead 200le ran out of gas, my gf son grabbed a gas can and put 50:1 2 cycle gas in it by accident. im thinkin that 50:1 isn't too bad but im not sure. should I pump it out or run it out and add straight gas as I go?Lincoln 225 ac (my first machine)farmhand 115vac 70amp mig/fc toymiller aead 200le (my main machine)
Reply:It won't hurt it that much. It may foul the plugs a bit and smoke a lot, but that's about it. It's much better than running 2 cycle engines on straight gas, or even running 2 cycle engines on "double dosed" 2 cycle. I'll often "dispose" of older two cycle gas by adding it in small quantities to my mower to burn it up. Usually it's stuff left over for the past season in the spring when I want to get fresh gas. The bigger engine on my mower seems to tolerate small quantities of older fuel better than the smaller engines do.I certainly wouldn't leave it in the tank though. If you are just going to use it right up, I'd just run it. If it's really smoking you can always either siphon most of it out, or dump it and fill with straight gas. If you are going to park the machine, I'd dump it out and then run some clean gas thru the unit and then run it dry for storage..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:not going to park it as it is my main machine, just wondered if it would hurt it to just run it through and then refill it with good gas. he put 5 gal in itLincoln 225 ac (my first machine)farmhand 115vac 70amp mig/fc toymiller aead 200le (my main machine)
Reply:With that much, if I had one of those pump siphons they use for kerosene cans, I'd think about pulling out as much as I could, especially if it's my main machine and I make money with it. I could see that much possibly fouling the plugs though I doubt it would cause carb issues. I'd pull out what I easily could and dilute the rest. I know how much  a PITA it can be when the plugs get fouled and machines get hard to start. It's probably not going to be much worse than a motor with worn rings that's sucking oil, but if I was making money with it, I'd want to reduce any hassles that I could without going to extremes..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Probably not going to be an issue.  Look at it like this, the very small volume of oil in the mix is sufficient to lube the bearings and cylinder of a 2 cycle engine WITHOUT causing those engines to foul out plugs in the short term.  The 2 cycle oil is formulated with the aim that it WILL BE BURNED in the combustion process.  I doubt that you will even notice a difference in how the engine operates and it certainly will not harm any fuel system parts. Genuine problems of "wrong gas" are when you put straight gasoline in a 2 cycle engine, not vice versa. Just breathe a sigh of relief and weld.Last edited by walkerweld; 12-13-2013 at 12:53 PM.
Reply:thanks guys didn't think it would hurt it but wasn't sure, sighLincoln 225 ac (my first machine)farmhand 115vac 70amp mig/fc toymiller aead 200le (my main machine)
Reply:It's not like the old days of 20:1 when you were pouring a quart of dinosaur bones and paraffin in a five gallon can. Todays stuff is way more refined, less of it and pretty harmless in the combustion process. I wouldn't run tank after tank of it. It might be a tiny bit hot on the exhaust side but it's winter time. Reply:I wouldn't sweat it at all.5 gallons heh?  My AEAD200LE only has a 3 gallon tank.  Oh, and it says to use at least 84 octane on the side.  LOL

Reply:I'd just run it.
Reply:been running it today and it is running fine, after I burn some down I will refill it with straight gasLincoln 225 ac (my first machine)farmhand 115vac 70amp mig/fc toymiller aead 200le (my main machine)
Reply:I burn 2 stroke mix in my log splitter quite often. I always have saw gas on me but for some reason I run out of gas for the splitter. I doesn't run any different on the pre-mix, never fouled a plug and no smoke. If my saw gas gets over a month old it goes into my truck or swmbo's Jeep or sometimes the snow blower. They have all burned a bit of it.
Reply:It will be fine. I run mix gas in my lawn mower all the time. (You pretty much have a lawn mower engine)worst thing that could happen is the plugs get fouled. But I doubt that would happen
Reply:Hey, it's better than having water in the tank!!!  A neighbor got a panic phone call from his wife one day.  Seems as though when his 7 yr. old son got home from school, he and a buddy decided to play "gas station".  The kid stuck a water hose in the filler tube and "filled 'er up"!!!!!  It was a new Volvo sedan back in the days when they had the larger filler pipes.  THAT cost him some major $$$ to get taken care of.  Had it towed to the dealer, tank removed, system flushed just in case.
Reply:What kind of two stroke oil? I would think it helps a little to clean valves and lube but Im not sure. Just something I heard from a diesel mechanic after I put diesel in gas mower. Also, like DSW said, " plugs might foul"   but 50:1 is lean. 2.5 ounce / gallon I think?
Reply:The oil is so refined now, it won't do a thing.  During hurricane Sandy, we pumped out a boat and Rena everything that didn't have electronic fuel injection or oxygen sensors on it.   Not one problem. Used to use marvel mystery oil mixed with gas as the breakin fuel for car engines on purpose.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:I always run some 2 stroke mix through my log splitter (4 cyl 1600cc Toyota) motor when I've finished using it for the season. The oil mix preserves the alloy carby housings beautifully till the next year.
Reply:The ratio sounds synthetic. I always thought the mineral oil ratio was too rich and the synthetic a bit lean. It is basically providing the same lubrication. I think the mineral is better. If the tank was ten gallon and you added ten gallon of premix I would drain it. If you put a gallon of premix in with an empty tank I would just top the tank off and call it good.
Reply:My STIHL runs 50:1 mix plus the neighbors boats do too. All that old gas goes into whatever 4-stroke tank is the lowest come Fall. It won't hurt your "Money Maker" to have a tank full!

Reply:I run pre mix in my mower if I have no straight gas.  There was always a container of mix for my dirtbike but rarely ever one of straight gas, never an issue.
Reply:2-stoke oil is the best damn fuel stabilizer there is.
Reply:Originally Posted by InsanerideThats a good idea. Not only for my logsplitter but  anything else that gets stored for a while. What kind of two stroke oil do you use? I think the mineral oil is Benoil/KLOTZ but my favorite is Golden Spectro. Its concentrated.
Reply:Your fine. That ethanol garbage is infinitely worse.

Reply:On our fire department, we have a mix of small equipment. Some are 2-cycle, some are 4-cycle. To keep it simple, we use 50:1 in everything, including the spare gas cans we carry on the trucks. Couple times each year we empty all of the gas tanks, cans, etc and just dump them into the ol' gas 1977 pumper. She's still the fastest truck on our fleet. (With 40% more water on board too!!)Andrew
