Hey yall!! Hope everyone had a good saturday...Anyway, I ended up with all this square and rectangular tubing in the form of a shipping crate, given to me by a buddy. Even tho the steel was free, Im in it like $20 already (Had to buy some straps, thats what I get for leaving home without them... Oh, and a sawzall blade too). So anyway, now I've got all this stuff to work with. I want to build something with it thats practical, or better yet, profitable. Its either 14 or 16 gauge, and varies from 1x1 to 1x2. And Im not too sure what Im going to make with it. I know I'll build a handle for my moms grill (stock one is a joke), and probably use the four sections on the left for the legs of the next BBQ I build, but aside from that, I dont really know what else to make. Ive never worked with steel this thin, but it looks like it'll be fun to tig.Im just looking for ideas here... Does anyone have anything in mind? Every time I build a fence unroller, I build it a stand to keep it off the ground. Right now, all I see here is a lifetime supply of those stands, but thats it.This stuff was almost free, so theres gotta be something lol. Ive flipped through the Lincoln project books I have, but Im not seeing anything... Thanks in advance, and enjoy the weekend [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009

Reply:I often make shelving arms for the garage.  Simply one vertical with screw holes for running into the stud and the other piece sticking out 90 degrees to support a plywood shelf.  One of those at every other stud location and you can support boxes and all kinds of junk

Reply:Profitable from free steel? Scrap!  That bed ought to bring something. I'd have to agree with Tangle, I'd probably stow it for future use since I can't come up with an idea instantly either..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I have built many usable tools, stands and various things including my belt sander out of cut off's like that, I'm sure you will find a use for that steel. Does any of it fit inside(teloscope) of each other like a trailer hitch??  I say stash it untill you find something to do with it...Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st

Reply:Good find man ! i make allot of stuff out of matl. that size i have a heavy duty plastic tote i got from lowes that i keep short scraps just like that in and i raid it all the time before i saw up a long piece .1) that is the perfect size stuff for hang on the wall matl. racks if you have studs to mount it to . 2)a fold up grinding /cutting table 3) mounts to hang a toolbox on the wall 4)outdoor tables to set your beer on "could sell those "5)torch cart or a cart for your welder 6) chop saw stand with wheels "very handy" 7) stand to support matl. while you saw it .are you the same Lanse with all the youtube videos? if you are you definitely need a chop saw  stand i used to do it that way big PITA! just a few ideas that worked for me . let us know what you do . good luck...Chris
Reply:Hey Lance. here are some ideas. you could build a head ache rack for the truck that way when you haul steel and stuff it wont brake the glass. A bench grinder stand,  you could build a light bar so you cam see at night. Also you could build like steps for the pulling truck so the owner can jump in it.  saw horses are always great for projects. A simple chop saw stand. Or you could just safe it for a rainy day. And keep the great work on your youtube  videos. I cant wait to see part 3 of the pulling truckMillermatic 211 with mvp plugs miller titanium series welding helmetstihl chain saws 8 ft welding table
Reply:Lance, what have I been suggesting to you on YouTube?  You need to cut your steel outside or at least "away" from your welders.  I like the idea that one poster said and that is to build a stand/bench for your  chop saw, put some caster wheels on it and cut AWAY from the $$EXPENSIVE$$ welder machines you have. All that iron and carbon soot getting all over and inside your plasma and welder machines is not good.  The cooling fans on those machines suck all that crap into their insides.  You already wear a respirator when cutting, your welders need protection too.The steel you have would make a great cart/table or roll out bench for your saw and/or grinder.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member
