Pop Can Crusher 3.0 (Pneumatic)I saw 700R and Cajun Welder’s design and liked it more than mine, so I copied them. My original valve set-up was a pain. When I switched valve types I decided to just start over. I added a hopper to put the cans in easier. The hopper holds about 15-18 cans. I have some talented students and asked one to draw up Heinz Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb. The clothes pin holding the picture is temporary. Once the picture is laminated I will tape it on.The link to parts are as follows:Valve Grainger http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg...N=0&sst=subsetPneumatic  Cylinder http://www.automationdirect.com/adc/...l&TxnNumber=-1 Attached ImagesDave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Good job!  I like it, simple and easy, and I like the hopper. I may copy your design of the hopper, if its alright with you.
Reply:Hell I copied your idea. Go for it.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio

Reply:Whats a "pop can"?       http://www.facebook.com/Knappmobilewelding
Reply:it goes POP when you crush the poo out it then plop.
Reply:How does it stop the next can from falling down behind the plunger when at full stroke?
Reply:A friend of mine built a can crusher with a air cylinder and it seemed to be having a problem crushing the cans. It just wasn't working like we thought. After watching it for a while, we determined it was captureing the air in the can, slowing it down. We drill a few holes in both the ram plate and the base plate and then it slammed those cans. Made a world of difference.
Reply:Sho DrI made the plunger thicker on top so a can can not fall behind it. Plus the hopper prevents alot of movement of the cans.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio

Reply:I'm thinking to myself... How does he get the deposit return machine to scan the bar code label?  At $0.10 per can, that machine would be too expensive to run around here (Michigan). One's vision of the world is sure oriented from where one is sitting.
Reply:ZipzitVery true.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Thanks for sharing. I want to build one also. How well does it work?

Reply:Thanks KnappI grew up in Georgia. It was all coke back then, when we moved north I confussed people with refering to all pop as coke.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Im interested in making my own BEER can crusher mostly because I dont want anyone counting how many I had last night. My question is, does anyone have pics of a can crusher that could crush a five gallon bucket full of cans at once ?
Reply:If you drink a 5 gallon bucket worth of cans a night add a breathalyzer as a safety switch. LOLDave ReberWadsworth Ohio

Reply:Good point about the breathalyzer safety switch. I will have to fabricate that first but Im thinking of borrowing this design and scaling up to do about a six pack at once.
Reply:Here is a bag of cans the gal next door gave me. Nice before and after picture. As I look at the post crush picture it is actually much smaller than it appears (bad photo). Attached ImagesDave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Quick question...how much pressure are you running that cylinder? What's the minimum amount required to fully crush the can?Joey G.Downey, CALincoln PowerMIG 180C
Reply:better question, where's the action video? There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:That is a good question. I think the answer is 100ish psi. I will crush some this weekend with a harder number.Sorry no video. I'm about as tech. savy  as an old order Amishman.Dave ReberWadsworth OhioOriginally Posted by ReebsThat is a good question. I think the answer is 100ish psi. Reply:if youre trying to do many of them faster, you might be better off doing something with rollers that you can feed cans into, it would flatten them lengthwise instead of axially, but i think they'd end up thinner, so the end product wouldnt actually take up more space
Reply:rusty rippleI agree this build was with science class in mind and space conservation as a secondary goal. I don't think rollers would be very hard either.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Joey G.I just crushed a bunch of cans @ 100psi. it crushed them fine. I then jumped the pressure to 125 that makes a big difference. They flattened out much more.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
