Picked up a Miler S-62 wire feeder for next to nothing and now I would like to pair it with a power supply.  I have a home shop and I would like to be able to run some dual shield.  Only 230v single phase available.  The feeder has a 14 pin connector, can this be adapted to run on some older CV supplies?  I don't want to pay for an XMT.  Any suggestions on some tried and true older (translation: cheaper) CV supplies that can run in the 28 volt range?  Any thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.  Thanks!JayJay DavisAWS-CWIC-60 Specialty Welding ContractorLoving husband, and father of two boys (

Reply:Thanks for the suggestions guys.  I would be willing to pay up tp 750 for a power supply with no accessories, so that is why I am looking for older unites, Airco, Esab, older Millers etc...  I will check into Powcon and look around.  Thanks!JayJay DavisAWS-CWIC-60 Specialty Welding ContractorLoving husband, and father of two boys (
Reply:If you're willing to spend $750, you might want to reconsider the XMT304. I've seen good units go for around $800, so you may get lucky. They're nice machines, very popular, and also good for stick.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:Agreed. $800 seems to be the low end on the XMT304's I've seen. Not commom, but they do show up from time to time. $1000-1200 seems to be the "normal" range. You also see the older XMT 300's cheaper. However they were not the most robust machines, and when they blew up, it usually costs more to fix them than replace them. Be sure they work before you buy one, and don't spend a lot on one. I doubt I'd offer more than $400-500 for a working one at most. The Shopmaster 300 is a good machine IIRC, but I'm not sure if it falls in your price range. I haven't really been looking at them used for a long time. I know it will take a 14 pin feeder and will run on 230v single phase. Basically it's a similar to a transformer version of the XMT..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
